lmao at this tournament. Nothing like having an anxiety attack around the 30 minute mark, so not only am i fighting in map im fighting to not pass out at the comp and keep my wits about me.

Shout out to Battlefield-12 tho, i mean the dedication was real following me around the whole tournament. Fuckboy. Also Traumas and Tuggs quit lows were cool too.

Another tourney couldn't get a kill for cap and spent about 15 minutes on my second fill and fell behind in points. Lame that trauma q'd low. I didn't see cloud the whole tournament.

I find that getting kills in a wet map / PPH-heavy tournament like this is difficult. When I am doing 1v1 or 2v1 PPH with other lieutenants, I can see which fuel(s) on the screen I will take when I get low and which my PPH partners will take, etc. But my sense of the map outside of my immediate screen is very hazy. This is what Sherman and weekend nachos have called "map awareness", and it's just not kicking in for me.

When I drop so fast when I take my eye off the PPH'ing, it's hard to focus on what is happening outside of the screen and elsewhere on the map. Do you simply look on the map, everytime you go to a new screen, or do you avoid 1v1 PPH'ing and try to find mobs and snipe?

Congrats on scoring gold twice in a row, Headhunters! And shout out to "lol" for very high points

I work in the shadows.

 8 minute fill.

I picked up so many ERs early, and no single screen had more than 4 EQs on it. Pretty strange since I typically find a plethora of EQ in Des early.

Ran out of duals with about 1:20 left and just had to hope for the best.

Had to get one more July tourney win in, seeing as how almost half of my total cups have came in the month of July the last 2 years. :hah:

Thanks bro, we were fuckin up some scrubs together a few times there dat tourney.
This is not much of a secret but, I just fight with whatever is available for most of da tourneys. If I see a mob near me I will go and try to get da kill, but if I don't see a mob I'll just try to 1v1. Obv if it's late and I need a kill I'm not tryin to 1v1. Or if it's late and I don't need a kill I'm only gonna want to 1v1 or snipe from da side.

Anyways, one of da best comebacks I've ever had. Was about to give up at 9 min mark when I was at like 60 34 45 24 0, then found a nice screen and was able to fill in 12 mins. Was like around #20 at 30 min mark then started beasting my way to da top. My last 30 mins was one of da best beastin job I've ever done. Got lucky with da kill on Youngstown.

Shoutout to Charlie, lol, and trauma for helping me beast to da top!

With the competition as stiff as it is, you have to almost find another level of relentlessness when it comes to points. The tournaments I've won, I've actually said either out loud or to myself, "This one's mine." Eventually, you'll put yourself in the right mind set and find yourself in the right places at the right times.

Some little things though that may help you and I know I've mentioned them before.

1. Do your best not to get raided or even 3v1'd for any length of time. Teleport across the map to avoid getting mobbed if you have to (make sure you don't go insufficient though).
2. If someone's in your screen solo, shoot them. Be stubborn about being the first one to move and always squeeze in that extra shot before they teleport away.
3. Don't be afraid to use homing. It's an extra eq box or two if you do it right to refill them.
4. Make short moves/avoid long moves. That one box the whole way across the screen probably isnt worth the 3-4 shots you can get in for those 5-6 seconds.

I'll try to think of some other tips. I wanna see you snag one Sigma!!

Thanks HONOR and Headhunters!

Seriously come back, HeadHunter! I had a 6 min 30 second fill at recruit to 60-60-60-60-58 because I mysteriously just got a ton of extra radars (like 3-4 boxes) before anything else filled up, so my entire fill was using ERs. I can't believe you beasted past me with a 12 min fill...

Yeah, looking back at the footage, I see definitely 3+ kills that I missed (was not on the screen for): TornACL, TheSmart186, and YOUNGSTOWN-1. Need to snipe from the edge of mobs! Also, Elegance was clearly a guy that didn't fill and went straight to ranking up. But unfortunately I ran into him when I was corporal / sergeant, and I couldn't find him again when I was lieutenant / he died before I found him!

Singular for the next tournament I'd like to see you go for first points. Kills will come and there's really no secret to getting em, the main factor you can influence is how you're doing points wise. So as a challenge for the next tournament you play completely forget about getting a kill and strictly focus on points. If you can keep top 3 pph you're almost guaranteed to cup in the end if you do snag a kill.

Basically the awareness you need to have I where are the noobs? Take a quick 3 seconds to find where the noob is and just fight near his screen. Keep tabs on who's on him etc and jump in when you feel he's about to die. If he's not dying right away stick near him and shoot whoever is shooting him.

The main thing you're gonna wanna learn is how to get the best points and eq management. Kills are random and only require a little skill and awareness but not as important as the former aspects I mentioned.

Thanks for the tips, Jordann. Really appreciate you taking time out to share your ideas with me.

Most of my focus in tourneys has been to train and improve my PPH, and I think that I've done this a few times (focus on PPH only / ignore kills):

#10 - I had more points than all other lieutenants
http://tankpit.com/tournament_results/?tid=291

#11 - I had more points than all other lieutenants (and all the captains / majors except for Giggly the Elf and Denial)
http://tankpit.com/tournament_results/?tid=293

My concern is - even with good PPH, I still don't cup without a kill; I just get a nice pat on the back, and that's all. 987, one of the most PPH-oriented tourney players, even stated in his bible, "i usually always try to max points, but this is a useless endeavor if you don't give yourself opportunities to get kills."

In my opinion (not stating this is fact; just opinion only), getting #1 or #2 lieutenant (and being #10 or #11 overall) is just as tragic as getting #4 captain or #5 captain. Because either way, I don't cup! Doesn't matter whether it's due to insufficient PPH or lacking a kill - end result is the same - I don't cup.

Jordann wrote:Kills are random and only require a little skill and awareness but not as important as the former aspects I mentioned.

I do think there is a way to getting kills, because I see that Rev's gold-to-silver cup ratio is 14 / 3 = 4.67 and his gold-to-bronze cup ratio is 14 / 4 = 3.5 (compared to most tourney gurus who have close to 1-to-1 ratios for gold-to-silver, etc), and he accomplishes this by outranking other people (major in 1-hour and colonel in 2-hour) many times repeatedly. I don't believe it's mere luck, for this kind of consistency. He has a sixth sense in getting kill shots. I am deeply interested in how this type of sixth sense is developed (besides just brute-force playing 100+ tourneys??), to complement my PPH-focus

If you see several noobs ranking up in the beginning without filling equip, you KNOW there are going to be several very easy sergeant kills early on. I would try to get to lieutenant ASAP and hunt them down. If on the other hand those players are the same color as you, then you better adapt a PPH-heavy strategy early on. I think strategy should depend on a) the field of players in the map b) the map itself (for example, there tends to be a lot of kills on maps like desert and castles and relatively few in deep six/iceland/apps etc) and c) the situation you find yourself in. If a known veteran snags a kill for captain early, more likely than not that player will take 1 of the 3 cups. If another gets a captain kill, you should really try to shift strategy and go for major. It only takes about 50 minutes with VERY average PPH and good luck to make major.

The lesson is to be adaptable. If you go into every tournament fixed on trying for top 3 PPH and then snagging a lucky kill in the last few minutes, is that really a satisfying win to you?
