cup winners
To let new players cup, past tournament cup winners should vote on a day not to play a one tournament of the week. This would boost activity because we all know new awards on our regs bring the beasts out of us

then theyll make a new anonymous tanks and hope to win more cups easier. i dont think tournaments should be easy to win. maybe when enough new players are around than there can be rookie tournaments.

I support the idea all the way.
Maybe if the rookie wins three practice tournaments then the player is awarded a cup (the actual cup awarded could be determined by the average of the 3 results).
In today's gaming world, the younger demographic looks for instant gratification and your idea gives them this without ruining the integrity of the cups earned by the more seasoned players.
Imho, many newer players quit out of frustration from a lack of equally 'nooby' players coupled with the fact that the majority of the player base has been playing some form of this game on and off since the late 1990s early 2000s. That makes for a steep learning curve.
I had a similar idea myself but I called it practice tournaments.

the game hardly ever matters now a days. as show by the god awful yet incredible addictive/successful games on the market at the moment. The game only needs to create a want to keep playing. something that is always so close they keep playing. Leaderboards are the exact opposite. its a long term, work hard get there goal.
While it may sound silly, this game could still remain true to the gameplay and implement an leveling attributes, unlock by playing/achievements/whatever and getting credits. dont allow the option to buy credits but implement a system that facilitates credit transfers at a fee (10%?20%) creates an economy for the game that is utilized when you play and earn credits, creates a sink in the credits via transfers and creates a reason to not put the game down.
of course theres plenty of other options, but i think the game needs to adapt outside of its core gameplay. even pong went 3d

I know collecting cups was popular on battlefield, but was it like it is now where everyone played every single tournament? I don't remember.
At any rate, I go back and forth about this. On the one hand, as one of the few members of the tankpit community who doesn't have a cup, it would be nice to win one someday and it is frustrating seeing the same players win over and over again. Time constraints on weekends coupled with low motivation to play tourneys have left me unavailable for tourneys lately but I'm always rooting for lol, sigma, cracki3, etc to break through. And hopefully I can start playing them again soon.
But I also think everyone that has ever won one legitimately probably worked their asses off for it and had to play 20+ tourneys before getting lucky and winning one and they had to beat out everyone else. So it's a legitimate question to ask why change it now?
To me overall, It's just a cup. If I win one sometime cool, if not I'll carry on living my life and it won't impact my continued playing of this game. But I want to have earned it if I win one I guess. But as usual that's just my opinion

This was how I felt before winning my first cup on Beaver. Made it 1000% more gratifying. It would be another 19 tries or something like that before I upgraded silver to gold. Yes I am better now than before and have quite a few cups, but I don't consider myself good at tournaments by any means. Part of the constraint is unreliable internet esp when the map has more players, but it takes lots and lots of tournaments to improve on your overall tournament skill. That's why I still play, getting a shiny cup is nice but the focus should be on improving your game

We all learned to win through trial and error against the greats. Everyone is capable, but no one wants to learn or put in an effort anymore. I:E half the players having others cup for them. Props to guys like theintern, Sigma, Cracki3, lol and even WEENIE for learning the hard way. Earn your shit.

yes and no. there was a lot more competition and players capable of cupping, but no they didn't play each and every tournament. there was however always a strong field, but instead of the same 5-6 players winning it was the same 25-30 players that were consistent when they actually played one.

But the player base is so small probably 1/15th of what it was in bf. Thats why I say skip 1 of the 2 tournaments held every week.
Also no noobs want to see The Revelation XXXVIII

This is one of the reasons why I stopped playing Tournaments. There's no need for me to have 13,682 Cups. As of today, I have 11.........AND.........I regularly play on 5 tanks. So the other 6 are pretty much useless just taking up space on my account. I normally check the Tournaments page to see who's Cupped and I'm always pulling for the "noob." But with Rev, Crane, ASCENDANCY, Nachos, (Lance until recently), Muff Cabbage, what's his name, & Homer around......I don't foresee any noobs winning a Cup anytime soon. God forbid if some of the older fellas started playing again (987, Divine, Bat-1, Kirby, etc....)......that would make it next to impossible for a noob (or intermediate level player) to win a Cup. IMHO, Cups are purely for bragging rights.....as long as it was won legit. Too bad there's not another type of Award (pixels) that could be earned for stellar play, dedication, committment, and so forth.
WEENIE BOY
EDIT 1: I'd be down for a invitation only Tournament tho.....Invites to players with Cups
EDIT 2: Unannounced Tourneys would favor noobs but participation might be poor (5 or 6 players.....lol)

I barely get to make tournaments these days like i used to, I got lucky with the timing on the past couple. But with my new job and general disinterest in the game lately, I make every other 1 -2 tournies these days. But asking people to not play the most fun aspect of this game, is a pretty hard ask. Currently for me and many others im sure, tournaments at least give us an hour of solid competitive play. Lance, the Rev, Myself, PD and Cujo etc, dont seem to always make tournaments. But you know fuckface is so desperate to have his name at the top you know he's there every time. Whether or not he admits it, he hates missing tournaments, and will most likely lie about not playing if he didnt win.
Either way, noobs can still cup over vets easy. But there needs to be a bigger community bar on people acting like fuckheads in tournaments. Post on the TPBB, if respectable players talk on there and set rules, newer guys might follow. But i suspect theres still some fags that show up on "noob" tanks that never seen the main field, putz around and die on purpose.
When i won my first cup ever I made colonel, and got cheated out of gold. Weenie if you and others were here in TP1 you would be livid with how much shit myself and some others had to overcome to win. How about making major in numerous tourneys only to be fked back out of place. Now if a noob makes major, hes going to cup. in tp1 there would be like 5 majors almost every tournament. Your buddy Krusty lovingly cheating for 15 of these. We were also playing in the days where old tourney gods like Knock, VK, UNBREAKABLE, 987 and many others with top tournament skills. Even now im still unsure if i could best some of them in their prime, as far as I;ve come. It doesnt matter if it was BF or Now theres always going to be someone better than you that you need to overcome.
I still root for the newbies even though I might be in first place. Theres been a couple tourns over the years where im winning and theres a new guy right behind me and im so stoked for him. Then some fag has to die down and ruin it for them. So IMO its not so much the top players but the people who die more than once that cause an issue.

I feel ambivalent on this issue, as well, similar to what theintern.
On one hand, it is definitely exhausting trying to cup repeatedly. Count is 31 times at this point, including - getting 4th once, getting 5th once, getting 6th three times, dying once as #1 captain with 5 min left to the end, and numerous other times where I had the points to cup but had no serg kill. Every time I see a Revelation tank or Tyrant tank or a tank with lots of letters / alternating caps (it's Krusty the Clown), I just think "well, there goes one cup, maybe I can get silver if I PPH hard?" or "well, there goes two cups, maybe bronze if I am really beasting and lucky?"
On the other hand, as I posted on the BB, the value of a cup is devalued if we have "n00b tournaments" or tournaments where constant-cuppers sit out. You'd have a two-tier system very quickly. "You cupped gold, great congrats, but did you get that in a n00b tourney, or did you get that in a REAL tourney where you had to fight Lance, weekend nachos, The Revelation LXXVIII, BlueGhost, Kirby, or Sean987?" Then some cups are fake cups and other cups are real cups, and the tourney cup thread would be split into two, one listing n00b cups and another listing real cups. It's a non-solution, if you want to keep the prestige of a cup.
I fucking swear that there was a prior thread about this, started by tournamentJESUS or someone by that name. He has the best intentions (and it would benefit n00bs like me), but you really can't do this stuff without bifurcating the cups into "n00b cups" vs. "real cups"

Additionally, given the amount of tournament guides (both written and videos showing every second of a cupping player, esp by Kirby and BlueGhost), the new player cannot say, "Well, these guys are keeping their secrets to cup to themselves and not sharing, and therefore, it's fair to have a n00bs-only tournament"
987's written guide, and Kirby's and BlueGhost's dozens of youtube videos showing them cupping, are an immensely powerful resource for getting up the learning curve.
So, in some sense, whenever I fail to cup, there is a voice in the back of my head saying:
"You know what, dude, Kirby and BG put all of their secrets out there, in dozens of videos, so if you can't cup after studying and rehearsing a lot of their techniques, either: 1 - you don't understand their techniques yet and you need to study harder / smarter, or 2 - you get the idea, but you haven't had the luck due to kills getting jacked or bad equipment fill, etc."

kyle posted 150+ bb tips that were pretty damn good for new players. bout half of em were tournament tips, beginner to advanced. so anyone following the bfbb during that time would have gotten some good information.
also this isnt the 90s, everybody knows how to use google and youtube. if anyone took any real interest in the game theyre going to look for videos and more information. theyll find the youtube channels and this forum pretty fast.
I think the bfbb needs to turn into an extremely heavily moderated to allow new players the chance to really reap the benefits of a community with zero tolerance for flaming/trolling/douchebags. this can easily exist with about 10 trusted moderators to quickly delete posts that violate the tos.
