tournament exp
any chance this comes back? It was one of the most original ideas of tankpit, giving tournaments a second aspect to be competitive. I dont think the reasons it was removed are valid (newbs feeling bad for low exp cup). would be nice to see this make its way back into the game.
could have some tournaments classified 'beginner' which wouldnt show the exp ratios at the end.

I never understood the reasoning of taking it out. It doesn't take away anything from a person's cup yet it gives another aspect to pay attention to in tournaments.

agreed with you both

PRIDE

Bring it back, please.

might as well bring it back so certain pph circle jerk fags can shut the fuck up about who they think was top exp but didnt cup.
Anyways i re put some thought into it, and its not as bad as I thought it was to have around originally. derp.

I see the merit in having it removed though. I didn't want it to go away at first, but I came to terms with it and have since been of the opinion that it's better for the integrity of tournaments for them to stay removed. I think that the competition in tournaments is purest/best when everyone is employing the strategy that they believe is the most likely to land them a cup, noting else. No extracurricular activities.
And if I'm not mistaken, that is a main reason they were removed - because many players were just going for high exp (and bragging rights), often at the expense of their chances to win a cup. The idea is that tournaments should be about going out and trying to win a cup, nothing else.
...However, I like seeing tournament exp. It does make me more interested in the results. I'm totally with you guys on that.
That said, I don't think exp results should be completely inaccessible until the end of time. I think that there's middle ground.
An idea I've tossed around in the past that a few players vouched is that tournament exp could become visible on a result list only after a certain amount of time has passed - that there could be a cooling-off period in place. Perhaps after a month has passed, or a week, or three days, or in a big reveal at the end of each quarter... the optimal amount of time is up for discussion. Old results would be updated to reveal exp after the requisite time has passed.
Why, you ask? What does this accomplish?
I think that something like this would help certain players employ the right balance between doing what's right in the moment (playing for a cup) and doing what's right for their own ego/perceived-legacy/fun/other (playing for exp). A waiting-period for viewing exp introduces a disincentive to play for exp that is material but not crippling. Players that care enough about exp (or are simply curious enough about it following completion of a tournament) will likely feel anticipation towards their impending availability and remember to go back to the results to look at them - but if the cool-down period is long enough, everyone else will also have since forgotten about that tournament and not really care about praising somebody for achieving a certain exp in an old result (because again, the public praise should really be reserved for those who cup - one probably shouldn't be praised more for a cupless 99 than for any cup, or be considered more prone to winning for a string of cupless 99s than they would be for a string of cupped 80s)
Furthermore... any of the classic/inevitable/trifling "I was top pph!" - "No, I was!" debates would become really interesting/entertaining to follow if they were left to simmer for a while before actually being revealed ;)

Like Kirby said, it was taken out because SW feels that everyone should be 100% focused on cupping only. He believes the PPH mentally ruins the match, and only encourages deaths at the very end. I am on the fence with this one at this point. I do believe that SW has a point, but I like seeing the EXP - for the exact reason he hates it though. I once was a full out PPH maniac, but with no EXP showing - I have been less motivated to care.
I like your idea Kirby about the cooling down period. But not nearly as long, I think it should be one day.
Regardless, I do not even see this becoming reality anytime soon though. SW is headed in the opposite direction and is pitching ideas of giving higher tanks more EXP to further reduce the effectiveness of PPHing at LT.
