I love little quirks / easter eggs like this. Doesnt change anything to game play, adds something nice to it, and its not distracting, and keeping it in the map screen further backs this.
Nice thought.

Interesting idea.
How about putting it in the top left corner, instead?

race i think should also be included and probably team affiliation
here we have a depiction of what the race indicator would look like. for example: zub is allegedly 1 quarter mexican and the rest african so his tag would look like this:

also, if i remember correctly, it was b_man99 who first proposed this idea. he was looking for something like having "emblems" next to the tank names and i think he also talked about flags. what i'm saying here is that b_man99 is one who should be getting the lightbulbs for this, not zub, i repeat, not sub but b_man. i will now direct you to the thread that he originally created many years ago.

I think top right might work out better. You want to read the tank names and awards first, seeing as they're most important, as most of the world reads left to right and its how this game is set up. It may be too distracting top left from the main core elements. Since it would be in the map screen its not all too prevalent, but as a design layout / legibility and the order of things top right is probably the better positioning. id give it a 3 - 5 pixel cushion from the edges too.

the important thing is to create as much divisiveness on the field as possible to keep us battling amongst ourselves (just like the middle east)
indicators for sexual orientation, social status, political party affiliation, religion, and occupation should all be included.

I don't check this section very often so I probably miss a lot of great ideas. But this would be a great addition to the game.
EDIT:
Although it could fuck up secret tanks, like Justin showing up in Teamspeak as a secret name and his Barbadoes flag gave him away right away

You'd have the option of showing the flag or not

I like the idea of nationality flags and yet I just don't think its important enough for me to be looking at it every single time I roll my mouse over the tank. Keep it simple... and that flag's too small to stand out across different screen setups. Maybe this is just something better for the site profile.

Not a big fan of this either, cool idea though. Doesn't provide anything important or necessary to me. Plus I'm no racist, I want to deactivate all of you equally and disregard your nationality.
I will say this, I was working on something last week for the player rank/awards window. My idea is probably no better than this, I was just trying to spiff it up a bit and add something new and different...

Disgustingly good idea. Definitely lightbulb worthy IMO and a definite + addition to the game.

I also question the value in having them there every time you scroll over a tank. Might it be a case of cluttering the interface with useless data?
They definitely belong on a tank profile, though.

could you have a check box on a setting page saying..
[ ] display country of origin? or
[ ] view country of origin in game play?
that's if we don't think its clutter of useless info.
however, displaying it on a tank profile sounds like a great idea.

Only if it's off by default.
The average game player barely makes it to the settings menu at all so the default should be the most simple representation of the game

i don't think this is such a good idea, especially showing the flag in game next to the tank name/awards
there's only people from america, canada and australia that play this game and everyone pretty much knows who is playing from where.
this whole thing just seems unnecessary in my opinion

Isn't this usually standard for online computer games especially "war" type ones? I don't see how it's useless at all in fact I would target amerifags myself.. Everything cannot remain exactly the same as it was 10 years ago (see the new HTML client)
