Desktop icon
So I got a little lazy and decided to create a desktop icon linked directly to the TankPit play page. It's nothing special, but I figured it might interest a few people. I'm also working on some different designs but my initial design worked out pretty well and fits right in with your average looking desktop icons. This is on a Windows 7 PC using Google Chrome browser.
It does take a few steps, but nothing too intimidating and I'll guide you through it right here...
1. Download the image from the link below by right clicking - Save Image As. Ensure it is saved as a .ico file or it WILL NOT work.

2. Save the TankPit play page, or home page (whichever you like) to your browser's Bookmarks tab, then drag onto the desktop.
3. Right click the default icon, then go to Properties.
4. Under the tab Web Document, click 'Change Icon'. You can also change the link here and specify a 1 key shortcut if you would like.
5. Now click Browse, and find where you saved the image. Select the image to display it as your new icon.
Here's what my desktop looks like.

Let me know if there are any issues with my process above or if the image sizing is off. This is my first shot at creating, hosting and sharing an icon.

I like it, I think it would be suitable for the apple touch icon SW was talking about (
) it should be green and black though.

Thanks.
Good idea, I'll try to work on the green and black today. I was working on another design, but it just didn't turn out to be visible enough being so small, so I scratched it.

I was going for green and black, but the black clashed with the green and made it hard to see the icon in general. So I went with a green background and the same text that comes straight from the top of tankpit.com.
I looked up the specs from SWs post about the icon for Apple, so hopefully I got this right.
Green background desktop icon(.ICO file):

Green 152 x 152 for iPad:

Green 120 x 120 for iPhone:

Green 57 x 57 for everything else:

Good suggestion goober, green and black might be better.
Personally I wonder if there should be a little tank graphic somewhere on it, similar to the favicon for the website.

Good thought as well. I'll keep working on it when I have a few minutes here and there and continue posting the progress. Who knows, we might get something worth using eventually

P.S. - I don't think you need the glow/gradient on the edges, I think apple adds that stuff themselves.

Could you provide the image for the green tank favicon? I'd like to submit a ph entry!

You are correct. I just read that in the article from your post.
I was just doing that when I was working on the desktop icon and forgot to take it out.

Here's another, similar but with tanks added and the background green a little darker at 152 x 152:

I also have another idea, unsure if it will turn out though. We will see.

that last one is cool, but id suggest making the others look smoother/more definitive. Definitely wouldnt use the preset textures. Maybe find some tutorials and follow those.

if you have photoshop you can do a color mask to change the colors of those tanks.

Should an official PH contest should be booted up? The players that aren't part of this website seem to be kinda missing out on an opportunity to contribute to the desktop/mobile icon dearth. That might be a tad unfair since a

I think yes. It will boost participation and (hopefully) bring better results. I still think collaboration is good. :)

Not gonna lie, I did laugh.
Anyways for all that are participating here's a link to a really solid Icon template, that comes with a grid utilizing the golden ratio and all sorts of sizes. It's catered to the iOs7 Aesthetic on Mac but it shouldnt matter across the platforms. All you really need to do is double click on the Icon labeled "Artwork" in the layers file, and it opens up a .psb within the file itself, edit that, save it, and it updates in the original psd inside the template. Using the constraints of the grid itself will aid in better design layout as well. I could edit this PSD to just cater to the size needed, and maybe it could be put on the site for people to use as a download from Tankpit.com from the PH Contest page?
http://dribbble.com/shots/1111035-Templ ... ?list=show
Both the links under the photo work, grab the PSD and enjoy.

do what you want Jordan, it's not my decision. I know you personally don't like me, but if you truly feel the forums are better without me, then you know i'm willing to take a perm ban from it for the betterment of the game, so by all means. make the global decision. youll probably make a couple 100 people's week to see me perm banned.
