Freestyle messages
Not sure if this idea has been proposed. If not, I'd like to get it out there. What do you guys think of having the ability to type whatever message you want with the option of sending to your teammates or sending to everyone? Also there should be a filter for profanity. The current list of messages seem to be limited for communication and people in this community can always go on aim chat on the side while newer players don't have access. I think this would even things out a bit and also help encourage new players to join the community.

It's been suggested (not only to SW but also to Bonus) ever since people saw the in-client chat with BF-X5.

What about at least putting a "A" or "T" next to each message to indicate whether the message would be sent to "All" or just the same color "Team"?
And what's this client? Do you know where I can get it so I can use it in game?
Thanks.

Similar ideas have been proposed and might already be in the works
x5 was a DTT (Desktop Tank) program for Battlefield. Nothing like it has been mass-distributed for TankPit.
^ sadly
In game custom messages would be nice

If this sort of thing ever gets officially implemented it'll come sometime after the HTML rollout.
Old idea but it would definitely modernize the game and take it far beyond a 15 year old kids game.

I'd venture to say out of the user base >10% is under 20

Well yeah, but its still designed as much of a kids game as it was when it first came out, hence the graphics associated with it and the tame choice of ingame messages.
Do the messages have a fundamental purpose that would be lost if they were replaced with custom chat? It would be a lot more difficult to call out base and such though there could be a special hotkey for sharing your location. Interested in hearing some thoughts on this

For the "base is ___" and "meet me ____", you could have a link that you can click and it automatically sends you there. It is kind of dangerous though if you don't have a good sense of where that coordinate is and you can run out of fuel. But I think that would make the game more interesting. Good players should have an idea how far the coordinates are just by the number rather than the map.
It is kind of hard to communicate with the current set of messages. I was using "Let's chill here for a while" today only to realize much later that it only sends it to teammates. The game doesn't tell you until there aren't teammates around.

Well.. thinking about how seriously some people take this game and the amount of flaming people already like to do given the opportunity custom chat might be an issue. On the flip side, all modern youth games (assuming its always going to be friendly to all ages) have a sanitized in-game chat (think Habbo, Club Penguin etc). Mixed feelings here.

I chose those words carefully because in reality there is no way for me (nor anyone else unaware of such a program's existence) to know if there really is or isn't a TankPit DTT out there; based on my on-field experience and understanding of the community I'd estimate it's more than 95% likely that there isn't currently one out there / being used by any players. Good catch!

this is a good point, we're all well into our 20s, why can't we type in game messages. no more little kids are around to get abused by the messages.

To be fair, though, I know that at least one person (me) would abuse in-game messaging and sit in the map all day spamming "Eat a poopsicle, noob".
