And 003, the only things being changed is the increase on deaths and/or kills. Would be pretty easy to still have/get the awards you have/want. :-p
If mines cost a death they wouldn't need to steal all your EQ.
But then you couldn't die down without getting honor...
Kind of all runs down to the idea I pitched. Maybe we can test a softer version of the idea first?
TankHunter wrote:This has probably already been mentioned before...
How about doing something with mines? Hear me out
Why can't players get points for killing someone with mines? If a tank drives into your mines and is deactivated, shouldn't you be allotted at the bare minimum points for the deactivation and/or equipment from the kill, the same way as if you were to get the kill shot on similar target?
Maybe even rank off mine kills?
To address the concern of people making massive mine bases and mining the entire map, why not have a limit? Each time, normally, when a player lays down mines, 9 are layed. SO why not have a tally under the player stats thing. Say when you press C, under "deactivated: 0" have another line that says "Mines Layed: _ _ / 99". Allow for a total of 99, so 11 full mine drops.
When a player reaches the maximum allowed amount... could possibly have the oldest mines disappear (just taken off map, possibly shot by bots?) or have them turn into normal mines. So that only the 99 freshest mines from a specific player are capable of what I am suggesting.
Theres a list of ideas that could go along with this such as a button in game or hot key to allow you to "Clear" all your mines which resets your _ _/99 total or even a toggle to turn on or off the ability to drop such mines. Perhaps when those mines are layed. they look a bit different? Like an x on top of them or something.

I think if be liked this idea he would have done it already. Honestly, I'm not sure if it would hurt or help. I've considered the pros and cons and my conclusion is that SW would have to trial it. There is no way to tell for certain unless he experimented with it.

SW posted about this in the thread a while back where people were talking about the various mobs and teams in the game, which I believe led to a giant mess of flaming...lol

Having no noobs in the game would be a horrible thing. The game thrives on diversity. The reason it's not as good as in the past is that too high a percentage of the players are on this forum. The more loners and disconnected groups of players the better IMO.

are you doing anything to get new players or are you relying on us players to do 100% of the advertising? Also do you feellike you even have close to enough perks for new players to understand the game or are we look at a 1% turn over rate? Do you plan on putting up tutorials or guides on how to play or just expect new players to know what theyre doing?
Right now I dont see any completely new players sticking around very long, do you have any plans to change that?

There is a guide. There is also reduced shot damage when assholes attack you, easier fighting vs bots, and gain EQ for killing bots.
What other perks do you suggest for new players?

reduced shot damage seems nice, ive never noticed. I did notice the equipment and thats pretty damn good imo, maybe up the numbers they gain slightly.
Then guide is pretty bad and out of the way really. when a new ccid/tank hits play the first screen should be a interactive guide of some sort (easy wc contest) with some sort of skip button in the corner for people who already know/dont care how to play. But im more so thinking showing them the importance of equipment, keeping your fuel at a conservative level, teleporting and the fuel restrictions, shooting and ranking and surviving being attacked.
Need to get the newbies understanding the game asap, or else theyll just most likely quit and never return. the games hard, really hard. Were all veterans and beasts and we still have a difficult time playing and keeping motivation to play.
I just want to know that advertising at this point is going to be worth it. Getting brand new players means we sort of need to cater to them a bit more, especially if we want this game to grow and be something more then just a game to keep sw busy and bring us some nostalgia.
Have you put any thought to new ccids first tank starts with full equipment? Seems like a change that greatly benefits a new player and cant really give an advantage to a veteran.

The game may be hard, but all of us and the old newbies made it through over the years. Just an influx of new people would probably ease the way in for new players. If theres more newbies in the game itself, that means easier kills for newbies and its our job as old schoolers to recognize the newbies and leave them to their own vices and not pester them too much, if at all honestly, until they start showing more gusto on the field and interest in pursuing the game further in its intricacies.
EDIT: ITs also good for us to coach the new players subtly as well. Not via aim or any of that but its good to take the time and battle with them, lead by example, and so on.

Personally, I don't think it's the optimal time to advertise. There are many more improvements to be made.

It's an interesting idea....
The biggest negative is that people will just register new CCIDs when they want to make a quick new tank or want to hop on a recruit with full EQ to annoy someone.
Also not sure that new players would understand that they have EQ.
Also might make them bigger targets for other players who want an easy EQ kill.
A better idea probably would be to tweak/increase the fuel/EQ so there is more, or hack it so new players have an easier job finding EQ.
Other alternative is to have a practice map with tons of fuel/EQ for newbies to learn on and make the normal map drier.
Another idea is to have separate tier maps like: beginner (practice), intermediate, expert.

Maybe start new accounts with 5-10 ERs and nothing else. Keep the stuff thats already there to help new tanks like equip from bots etc. When the ERs run out, the new tanks should get an idea of how important they are and hopefully after afew deaths, take some time out to fill up.

Give the new players when they click play. a message could pop up and say " I see your new to the game would you like to try a tank (named SW of course) fully equipped and ready for battle" and have them dropped Into a practice map. The message would explain that the tank is fully equipped. And have messages that are displayed in the box where "shots fired" "your hit" and they could have Astrics around them. To explain what their doing. So say the tank shoots a bot messages appears
****** this is a CPU player******
they click to pick up eq or fuel
******you picked up a box of eq******
******you picked up fuel******
****** this is a ferry, ferrys are used only for water ******
****** this is a obstacle, It can be used to build bridges over small amounts of water. Click and hold to pick up Click and hold to drop ******
I know the game already says the last two but everybody that plays this game is used to it. Make it very noticeable, of course the messages would be more detail but it could be say a tip mode that could be turned off after they get the hang of things. I think that would be helpful to new players. Instead of dropping them into a map with fags that raid Rec when filling. Give them something simple dumbed down and give them something that won't make them get pissed and quit forever after 5 minutes. It's easy to get turned off a game you know nothing about. when talking about new players simple is the best. alot of games have this in fact most of all new games have this players are used to it. i mean if a player just comes across tank pit. Without anybody bringing them here i dont think their going to go read the whole "guide" section let them learn as they go. IMO best idea for new players the other stuff people are coming up with would take years to do. this is simple not saying it would be easy for SW to code and change but its the simplest idea so far. bascilly its bringing the " guide " to in game

sounds pretty legit. keep the entrance to beginner map limited to only new ccids and tanks with less than 3 hours (enough time to grasp the basics).
also, someone needs to figure out a way for new players to voice their opinion about the game and what they like, dislike, understand and don't understand so john silver can more accurately gauge how to tweak/improve game-play to attract and keep the new players. one idea is to have like a comments box pop up for new ccids after they have played for an hour or so and ask them a question pertaining to their opinion of the game or w.e.
so basically after a new player has played for like 2 hours or so, have a pop up box show up saying: "Congratulations! You have played for a grand total of 2 hours and have unlocked a prize! Your tank has now been equipped with a full set of ammunition and you are now ready to wage war at a full scale in the main map. But wait, there's more. We highly value your opinion about the game and would like to know about your experience playing. Please take a minute to tell us how you feel about tankpit. Thank you."
(this would basically not only give them a trinket, but also give them the illusion that they are indeed important), sounds like a win!

also, coming fresh off a new update, right now would be a good time for a MASS EMAIL SENDING OPERATION to everyone who has ever signed up on this forum and also all the players who registered an account on tankpit.com
remind them that they have an account and inform them that the game "has been rejuvenated and undergone a complete overhaul. new and exciting features (more tournaments, smarter bots etc) have been implemented and all glitches have been fixed. the player base is larger than it has ever been and the game misses their presence."
an email like this should get them extremely wet as soon as they begin to reconnect with memories of raids, tournaments and their colleagues.

This, but maybe in the future. All SW's free time is used to better the game. This will only slow down the process.
I feel a mass email (in the up and coming months) would be a good idea though. After SW is pleased with the running of the game and smoothed out what bugs/glitches there is. A mass bfu email got some players to return, also with tp1 going down, some players might now know about tp2 yet.
(
- When registering there should be a "recieve emails on updates, contests, etc... of the game from the admin team" tick box) - people can opt out so they are never contacted.
regarding the mass email, i know if i went away from the gave for a year and forgot about it but was reminded through an email, i would read it graciously and probably come back to check shit out -- especially if there was word of new features, updates etc

An email when everything on the todo list is done, maybe.
Also keep in mind that everyone who registered on BFU was a fan of the game in the past. People who register for TP and play for 5 minutes probably won't be too eager to get emails reminding them about it.

Piggybacking what PP said, another email from SR would do wonders IMO. He wouldn't have to think, just copy and paste what PP wrote with a couple edits and watch the old heads come back. Keep it to BFU though for all of Sunny's aforementioned concerns. Seriously, that can only help activity and there are plenty of players with accounts on here that would only make the player base shoot through the roof if even a small percentage came back.
ISO mass email again from SavinRyann. I know you're around since I talked to you last night so don't ignore me brother, lol. Been too long pal.

Can we have a message box for players to message each other ? Again, I am thinking of improvements that would help a newcomer . I would like to see a true player profile . This profile may consist of players bio ( ethical). Also, add a players fav awards, ally & foe list as well as add a friends tab to players profile.

Would it be possible to put the number of eq you have in () over the sybols? Ex: sheild symbol above that (45). I cant stand hovering over to see what i have left and hitting a button does not help either. Also would it be possible to add a life meter like the pokemon games? like have HP 2000/2000 full tank 1000/2000 is a half tank and so on. i think it would make the game fast to play to if you were to take raids.
