Tournament dilemas
Before i start this is not directed to anyone, just an observation.
It seems there is two types of people who win cups nowadays , cheaters and very good players. There is nothing for average or better than average players, don't get me wrong a tournament shows the best of them which is true. However it is the same people winning cups by whatever means on tanks that will never be played again. Meanwhile you have people who try to put time into their tanks and cup them but wont, unless they are very good but again it's a handful of players. This isn't even about me, i know i'm shit, and in my own time it may happen, but there really needs to be a requirement to join tournaments so people cant just make a tank 5 mins before and cheat 3 legit people out of cups.
Discuss, and please no flaming. I am interested how you guys look at it, especially if you create new tanks to cup and never play them again. Maybe I'm looking at it all wrong?

Legit players can beat cheaters. BLOODSHED in this last tourney was an excellent example. IMO its all about the fill and the luck of the kills. 1hrs are easy if u asked me minus the cheating they are madd fun. Ill cup eventually.

and
were average cheaters at best, though. If someone remotely good had had free kills (with eq, mind you) lined up, the results would have been a lot more drastic.

I agree to some extent. I dont think its cool for people to make tanks just to cup them, but at the same time a tournament is played to win. There will always be cheaters in tourneys, no way around it. I do wish there was a way for average players to cup, I guess just practice more, observe what the people who cup nonstop do. Equipment timing is a big part of it too, and im still trying to get that down. Other than that, a few lucky kills will get you that cup eventually

maybe we should have a new tournament where only newbies can join. It awards paper, tinfoil and plastic cups.

In my opinion 9/10 of what seperates 'average' from 'very good' tournament players is one thing: equipment. Spend more time filling in the first 30 minutes and you will have a stronger last 30. It's pretty much that simple. Fill close to 60 radars, if you scan boxes at private and corporal, pick them up. Fill again at sergeant before promoting to lieutenant. Fill again at lieutenant after blasting off most of your duals. If your feeling lucky you can do an extra set of duals at sergeant with homing shots off. Only if you think captain will be good enough for a cup because it will hurt your ranking scenario but can drastically improve your xp %. If you do it quick enough you will still have time to make major, kills permitting.
The initial fill can give you a nice head start. But even with a less than stellar fill time I can typically catch up to the top few players by my 3rd or 4th set of duals. By now my tournament routine pretty much guarantees I get over 90xp and it's all down to stock piling equipment early on.
Anyone can cup. Manage your time and equipment over 1 hr. Tbh it's not that hard and is more down to luck than skill once you know what to do.

I've had discussions about this with people who have played hundreds of tournaments. I would add that if you spend 10 minutes filling at lieuey like I did in the apps tournament you will get blown away. Your initial fill and second and third fills in my estimation can be no longer than 15 minutes or you will have a hard time keeping pace. If you're fortunate enough to get a kill to cap from someone who had eq and it doesn't take you forever on your second and third fills, you should be in contention. If you aren't then you're not fighting hard enough.

depends on the map and amount of people

PRIDE

Agreed, as well as the competency of the field. If everyone's fills are terrible then it evens out but I spent 30 minutes filling. Its tough to win like that.

Agreed, that's why I think I've had success in ice tournies. A little luck and it isn't too hard too hard to pull away in exp while everyone else struggles to fill. But with maps like dez, it can be extremely hard to be top pph even with a couple good fills.

Ice boils down to good equipment and time management.
The likes of Desert, Rox, and Maze are more about knowing how to pph.

des and rox are down 90% to luck. If your initial fill is good you probably will have good fills the whole tournament because you keep emptying set first and refilling at more appropriate times. Ice is about getting ferries to fake a quick set and/or for quick fills. Maze is one of the best tournament maps. I've always thought so and my gold there on lefty stands out as one of my best tournaments ever, including battlefield. Even though I got 4th pph I was probably around 70xp with 20 minutes left and ended at 97xp. I can't remember a stronger finish in my entire bf/tp career. Personally I feel like maze is down to equipment a lot also. It can be really tough to refill. You often must use the spirals that no one wants to deal with.

You can't say CM isn't 90% luck, too. There's so much fuel and equipment that from #3-#9 it's like 1 load of duals tops.
And in Iceland, you can easily be top 3 pph without touching a ferry if you have a solid strategy, even if lefty gets a ferry to fake a quick set and/or fill quickly.

dez and rox you almost always see the top pph guys win because more people play-> bigger mobs-> more people die -> more chances of gettin the kills
the water maps is where you see more of the lower pph win cups sometimes.
most of my cups are from dez and rox
btw, i had a 81exp cap for gold in maze before haha

All maps have a large element of luck during tournament. That's the nature of this game. I feel like CM takes a bit more diligence than des/rox. You have to do a lot of pinpoint teleporting even just to fill effectively.
Iceland on land? solid strategy? You've gotta be joking man. Especially when the tournament is crowded the land becomes a barren wasteland. Ferries are so advantageous. The only reason you were close to me most of the tournament on Jeraziah is because I wasn't on a ferry either. In fact, every ice tournament I've played in tankpit I've been unable to fight someone on a ferry. It seems like just about everyone is either cheating(so they go somewhere else to free shoot) or they are hydrophobic and use the ferry to fill at most.

I understand exactly what you mean bud, I was there not too long ago. I was struggling with tournaments myself until I asked some pros for help. I picked some of the top names in the uTanks tournament points board and asked them about certain aspects of the game I was struggling with. And after that I won over 10 cups in uTanks and 2 in TP.
Keep at it, you will get one sooner or later!
Good luck!
