That's basically what uTanks did after the first month or so in Blitz, even though there isn't that much water. Kinda retarded.

Re: Equipment

Extremely dumb idea. Haven't played recently but if this is true this is going to be a big turnoff for me. This is the equivalent of taking supplements to lose weight, when all you need is a decent amount of exercise added to your life.

Just learn how to fill in water maps, it's not that hard. The key is to go to areas that haven't been travelled, about as hard to figure out as adding single digit numbers.

Probably the only reason this came about is because people were complaining its taking too long to fill. Solution?
-Get rid of the maps with a lot of water in isolated places. Some of these new ones are severely imbalanced and the equipment is getting stuck in spots we can't get in.
- Put 10-15% more equipment in Iceland because the map is fine but the inaccessable lakes holds equipment that isn't respawning in the map.
- Some other adjustments
- Add 10% more equipment into all maps. This would shorten fill times.

This proposition is just not the answer. Water is part of the game whether you like it or not. If it's going to be like this might as well just take out water maps altogether, which I wouldn't stick around for

Maybe I should write a water map strategy guide for WC since not many people seem to understand them. I don't rant often, but when I do, I have a point. /rant

Its actually not bad knock. It was a turnoff for me too at first but it's okay. Once you empty you MUST leave your ferry to fill. This means your ferry will be stolen. It cycles players around the map more instead of ferry huggers having more of an advantage. Should I really be the one advocating this? lol

It has it's pros and cons. They haven't done this for all the maps as there was eq in the water in ice yesterday, but I can see them doing it for Quick Sand.

You both have valid points. Castles was pretty boss the other morning. I never saw so much eq. Kyle, I think a WC strategy/maintenance guide is warranted.

Can someone clarify? No equip in water for all maps or just certain specific maps?
What about tournaments? This changes water maps significantly, I personally like it for tournaments. If this is true, what's his name's chance of winning decreased about 75%. Although he can still fill on land and ferry swap like he and his teammates did in Quicksand.

it's been happening for nearly a week now. I think it was in response to the heavy criticism of blast zone in particular. It is definitely strange and I can't imagine why it wouldn't be in their news feed. Except that they hardly tell us anything...even their last update came through on like the 12th or something and was dated on the 8th...lol took em 4 days???

I could see it being good in tourneys to cycle rafts but in game i think it destroys some of the element. Maps like blast zone i wouldnt mind if no eq spawned in water. Maps like quick sand the water and land is so spread out that it doesnt matter land or water.

Don't forget the noobs that decide to block all ferries in the map just to be gay. Besides being ungodly dry somewhere like Iceland or Apps, you can easily spend 20 minuts trying to fill duals and radars using obstacles or looking on land.

Re: Equipment

Postby knock » Tue Jul 24, 2012 7:14 pm

I'll admit...a map like Blast Zone I would have no problem with this whatsoever. But take it to maps that are more balanced and I'll flame it. No reason to take out half the map due to incompetence of people who don't know how to adjust to dry land and different filling patterns.

A small adjustment such as making sure there is at least 40% of the equipment on land at all times in a map like Appaloosa Land sounds reasonable to me but lets not take the water completely out of play. :lb:

Re: Equipment

Postby Jordann » Tue Jul 24, 2012 7:37 pm

and if the average playebase drops by 70-80% because they don't feel like 'adjusting' in a 2d tank game your still against this idea?

Its a simple game that has some deeper learning curves within it. No need to force casual players to 'adjust or die' when they could easily just stop playing (and already do) when they no longer get enjoyment from playing.

Im a big fan of this, when you think about it it actually solves alot of problems. Ferries will be used by multiple people now, instead of a few people hogging them up and using 100% of its resources to themselves and fill times are reduced drastically.

Damn im conflicted lol i agree with knock but jordan brings up a good point. It might just be important to tailor thisto each map individually. Like ice is fine it doesnt need fixed. Blast zo e needs adjustments if its going to stick around. Just because they started this doesnt mean they arnt still trying to perfect it.

I like no eq in water. It might ruin some maps but only because they are like 50/50 water. Those maps will get weened out and it will make water less gay. It will make people fight more also and not have take forever to fill because theoretically there should be more equipment around

I agree with JB to a certain extent.

Maps like Iceland, Apps and Quicksand should have 0 eq in water.

If having little - no eq in water was a known established fact, filling in that last tournament would've been better for everybody. So much time can be wasted looking for eq in water under tourney conditions in a map that's 70% water.

Filling times will be less in these maps and fighting will be encouraged.

However, if the community decides to not play these maps, then the other alternative would be to increase the eq in water along with the number of ferries. This is so that players can enjoy the game on/off the water.

Re: Equipment

Postby lefty » Wed Jul 25, 2012 12:12 am

the main issue with water maps is a lack of ferries. They only spawn a few and then several tend to get locked by the players on the water. So like 7 ferries becomes 4. When really they need to just make the water totally accessible. There should be like 50 ferries just in case the tourney pulls a crowd.

It works nicely for all the maps with negligible water. For the big water maps though it's definitely a major twist. Filling on land becomes slightly TOO easy. It actually takes away a major element of skill - finding equipment. When 60% of the map is water like iceland but eq only spawns on land...you basically fill in a few screens no matter where you go unless it was JUST radar'd. I hope they find a good balance. I take solace in the fact that we all deal with equivalent circumstances.

I've emailed the dev's for months about transplanting ferries from useless locations. Even sent screen shots of two places in rocks. The only place they actually fixed is desert. Is it really that big a chore for them to move ferries to more useful locations? Any programmers who may know that answer?

yeaaah I mentioned in a different thread somewhere that the ferry count needs to be increased like 10 fold for water map tournies. Then there would be no issues with people isolating themselves and faking for 3/4 the tourney, ferry swapping etc

I approve of this statement. Filling is a strategic part of this game. I'm liking the direction you guys are looking at with more ferries around. I believe there should be WAY more ferries then there are. Maps in the old days used to have more ferries in regular map. Appaloosa land they were all over the place. But yeah, more ferries would make the element of luck in water map tournaments go down...and make regular map gameplay more fun and less frustrating. Inb4 400% more ferries?

EDIT: Taking eq out of the water isn't the answer for me. More ferries lets go!

Back on topic, castles gets crazy when it all regenerates on land. Cleaning out the water there is a pain because only a few players have enough time to actually put into doing it.
