2019 can't come soon enough.

I get a little warm in my heart when I think of winter.

but for real. I know theres alot of ut and ex ut players here. and we all know what its like when we used to have those massive mob battles for hours on end, or how intense the tournaments were with 50+ people in them. The game is awesome and other then some sub par (SUB PAR) staff decisions and crashes (which are long fixed btw) the game trumps tankpit. No offense to tankpit, the game is fun and shit (the community is pretty fucked up) but lets be honest, ut>tp ainec.

It's not even Final Release that I'm "waiting" for. It's the player base. I can't stand to PPH anymore, especially when my PP is competing with about 3 active players, no thanks. On top of a few other things, TankPit really put the sword into uT pretty badly. It sucks, because uT was doing fine and then BF had to come back. Outdated game that I really don't understand why people are so in love with still. uT is far and above better, but a lot of people are obviously stubborn and won't even give it a chance, it's a shame.
Tournaments have become an absolute farce. Same as TP, with pavan (and likely frog as well) running around more or less dictating who wins, but it's worse cause there's <10 people in each tournament. [In TP there seems to be more than pavan and frog doing this, as I have seen more than 2 specific fk tanks in several tournaments. Not setting a good example guys, and I know you've heard it 1000 times, but I really don't see how you guys have fun doing that]. Would do uTanks some justice to just cancel tournaments (and/or ban pavan and likely frog as well) for the time being, but for some reason Andy insists a tournament schedule be kept (??).
I'll play TP every now and then, but I miss the good ole days of uT and the battles and large tournaments which Jordan referred to. It seems teams are scared to battle in TP or something, because I've hardly ever seen two on at the same time. Maybe it's just the fact that most don't know how to battle, which is probably more likely based on the dysfunctional TP community base. When uT was active, we battled every day, several times a day, for hours on end. Wasn't even about score. Sure there was some bickering about who ran and who's a bitch here and there, but that's standard, and it wasn't nearly as bad as the TP epidemic.
tl;dr
It's a shame TP exists, because uT is far superior (IMO) but lacks the players to make it reach it's potential. O well.

matooa is exactly right. I wish we could set up a day where everyone on tp comes and plays ut, maybe one day a week or something. You can finally see what you chose, and if utanks eventually goes down while tankpit continues to grow I may never forgive this community for the absolutely terrible uneducated decision they made playing an obvious inferior game.
Also I think if andy openly retires from ut like 60% of the tp playerbase will suddenly be opened to playing ut again.

they need to make it a web based game and not a downloadable game that takes tons of effort to set up. and what matooa22 said.

this.
and Baha / jordan / jeff can relate to the many different dev screw ups (intervention) that brought the game to the point it is at now. tankpit is running the game the correct way (hands off) even though the players are killing tournaments tremendously.
i miss the battles, you will always see Kain in no matter the numbers of the opposite color because i am still used to how we did things in utanks.. people didn't wimp out and quit, or switch colors like weak little peasants.

andy wrote:Smh. You decide your own level of involvement. Players don't want to play then there won't be activity. Staff didn't do anything; people just stopped playing. Truth is that the nostalgia is gone for most of you. uTanks isn't fun for you as a game, so you stopped playing. Face the reality here. The game can't just get developed indefinitely with me and others creating buzz forever to create activity. The game has to be played for what it is, and that needs to be accepted. I will keep the game online regardless, but don't blame me or anyone else that has put a lot of time into creating this game for its lack of current acitvity.
And you wonder why development slowed down.
+1 to CYPJ
a nice jem taken from ut forum. Pretty funny andy still has the feeling that his decisions throughout utanks existence were the right moves.
even through all the bs of the staff decisions (almost solely andy imo) I would still play utanks because it is by far the more superior game. Id like to see some people who won't play the game comment on why they won't try the game.

Andy didn't make his weekly blog video for 2 months. uTanks final is non-existent.
He lied about finding a new developer to replace Kevin and Kevin presumably will not come back to finish it.
In that quote from Sylar it seems Andy is blaming the failure of the game on the players, once again dodging responsibility. Perhaps some day Microsoft will teach him that you can't leave people playing with a defective Beta version for 4 years and expect them to remain enthusiastic about it.

the thing is he figures everyone who played ut quit because they no longer find the game enjoyable. Instead he basically kicked everyone out, tankpit emerged and welcomed everyone. then he takes 2+weeks to rectify his mistake, but decides to keep registration closed while tons of old players are coming back to the community. Now the registration is still broken and no new ccids can be made.
The players are the reason it lasted this long to begin with, and I was hoping kevin said he was leaving but used that as an opportunity to get away from this crazy community and spend the excess time working on the game. From the sounds of it tho the progress of development is done and hes just gonna keep the game hosted for the 3 people or still play.
But with all that said if the game could be pushed to final I feel like alot of people would go back/try it out + with some good advertising the game could actually get back on its feet.

His attitude towards players who put in hundreds of hours and kept that game active turned quite a few people away. Also, immediately shitting on pretty much any idea brought forth to increase activity and then calling the players "idiots" or "stupid" when they tried to reason with him. Saying that he controls when the game is active was another thing I found funny. As I said above, some people are not meant to be "head honcho". Wtw comes back and I will have hope for the game, otherwise I don't see it happening.

if kevin comes back i will be very excited. Andy should have been the one who took a leave of absence and worked in the shadows, his contributions would be much more appreciated if he wasn't also contradicting himself and insulting the most active players at every opportune moment.

I said it on the uT forums and I'll say it again here.
The game had a lot of potential but it ultimately failed for one reason and one reason only.
It wasn't the idea. Fact is, there's demand for a quick, turn-based 2D tank game. Otherwise, you wouldn't have had dozens of different people who spent hundreds of hours on it in the first 6 months of open Beta.
It wasn't the players. The player base was very active and dedicated and also very enthusiastic to help with anything possible. See: Players making awards for the game, helping to determine the variables that dictated the game mechanics, making the maps, reporting glitches, donating money, etc...
And it wasn't the difficulty of the task. The uT devs showed that they could produce things. I don't think I ever saw or heard of them feeling stumped about a problem and just throwing in the towel. Some things may have taken longer than others, but they got done anyways.
The real problem was a leadership deficiency. There was no long-term vision for the game itself. No real plan regarding how they wanted the game to progress in the long run and steering everything in that direction. There was also a lack of understanding regarding how to lead a big project involving external users (customers). In my experience with the game, there was several occasions when contradictions between policies arose, multiple cases of contradictions between statements to the player base and implementations to the game, and, of course, there was a severe misunderstanding of the hierarchy of power within the project. For whatever reason, the developers thought they had despotic power over the player base, not realizing that their product was competing with thousands of alternate activities seeking out our attention and time. And while the game had the advantage of satisfying a very specific and unmet niche, by very nature, it was never irreplaceable.

obviously, shit i would play now if it was active and certain people were banned from tournaments.
agree almost completely with vk and sylar. honestly i don't blame andy as much, at this point hes 1 person with almost no help. it's not exactly surprising to see how this unfolded. anyhow, i think i'll take this opportunity to incorporate parts of my would be tl;dr into a more precise tl;dr relating to this topic.
the way i see it, we have 2 choices for tank games right now.
1 of them has dwindling leadership/manpower and a miniscule player base (mostly owing to the decisions made by leadership in late december, which was basically unforgivable and somehow led to the rise of an inferior/dated game with mostly terrible players). the game itself has unlimited potential and is actually fun, and the people that play it are mostly honorable and play the game the right way. the players are passionate enough to have lively debate on countless issues, real or perceived. however the vacuum in leadership combined with no real definitive vision (or rather, no real signs at progressing towards any of the visions that have been presented) has led a lot of us to tone down our hopes, and completely cease bothering even playing the thing. truth be told i blame stefan and kevin a lot more than i blame andy. why even bother wasting 3-4 years of your lives trying to build something that could be so great, and then completely abandon it/give it over to the PR guy to carry in what should have been its moment of triumph? i almost feel betrayed, but whatever.
the other has a "hands off" approach with more limited dev access, absolutely no vision, and a bevy of fucking terrible players who were either above average 10 years ago or have always been awful. would have been a great option if it was left exactly as it was in the bonus days, but the hypocrisy and duality of introducing new (or stolen from utanks) concepts while pretending to be the same thing it was... combined with the players? no thanks. it's also amusing to watch as they heavily bias against former utanks players (what else were we supposed to play?) in award distribution... how can you be so fucking clueless? THE NICHE IS THERE FOR THE TAKING. it's also so obvious how they want people who either A) haven't played utanks/made an investment there or B) have enough hours and a high enough positioning to take the awards, while almost everyone else gets screwed. at this point your game deserves to fail when utanks final comes (whether it be in a few months or during romneys second term), you've blown almost every opportunity to pull the trigger and put the final nails in the coffin. the only reason you guys have even had this much of an advantage to begin with is due to;
1) utanks ineptitude
2) players who missed the utanks phase, were intimidated by the existing challenge, and jumped on board because it's an easier road to the top 25/10/1 w.e
3) timing
4) players who can't handle the criticism that would have accompanied their faggotry/mediocrity in the utanks setting (tl;dr - we murder just about anyone who plays like a faggot, or at least we did back when we cared)
i must say it is impressive that such an inferior game took advantage of all the giftwrapped advantages and made it this far, but i honestly don't see the sustainability. if utanks goes under and tankpit is deadpit in 2 years, i'll never forgive the community for the opportunity it blew. you'll also probably never see me again (as opposed to now where i barely play and just hate constantly), because at that point the people who engineered the sequence of events that will probably occur will be crying and dealing with exactly what they deserve - no game.

also, to add 1 more thing
the real noticeable discrepancy between the tp community and the ut community is how we play (and fucking own) your game, contributing over half of the non-noobfuck players at this stage, and almost none of you sad fucks even gave utanks a chance. if ut final buries deadpit and the game eventually goes under and you have nothing for your efforts, you will be getting EXACTLY what you deserve. fucking pathetic display from a bunch of little kids. can't say i blame you guys too much though, i guess if i wanted to play like a faggot or had no courage to take on a bigger challenge i would probably play the easier/inferior game too, eh?

I would play final release, obviously.
Since I don't see an op from Andy I will choose not to believe that Andy "blames the players" for Ut's fall. If he did then that's just not right..

That's pretty harsh 98nigga. TankPit's vision was clearly to remake BF with some minor improvements (a la DTT and other sensible ideas).
It was partly motivated by uTanks' failure. After several years without uTanks moving anywhere TankPit decided to demonstrate that a full game can be made in a few months without soliciting donations and without making blog videos. There seems to be a disparity between people who know what they are doing, and people who know how to put on a show and pretend they know what they're doing.
If you think uTanks is a better game due to the increased speed and lower shot damage, keep in mind that those numbers could be changed in TankPit with ease, if they wanted to. Larger graphics could also be created for TankPit (hopefully ones that don't look like cartoons).
The only thing likely preventing that is that the game is a hobby project which lacks the resources and doesn't want to invest heavily into it.
Large gaming companies have whole teams dedicated to figuring out "vision" for the game and testing it internally.
uTanks failed due to incompetence of the development (taking 4 years) and lack of vision (constantly adding and removing features).
TankPit devs are inaccessible because they are busy and they know that nothing good can come from direct contact with the players (at least in the fucked up BF community). That's one of the reasons uTanks failed, they spent twice as much time blogging and posting on forums as working on the game, thus creating a lot of hype about things that they never followed through with. Bragging about things you haven't and will never complete is really an ugly trait.
There may be no future vision for TankPit having reached an acceptable status quo. It's very hard to tell what changes will be positive or negative, and furthermore since we've all played this game for years any change will likely make some players unhappy. What TankPit would certainly benefit from is a marketing team. If you have some future vision and want to dedicate yourself to achieving it you should probably contact TankPit to find out how you can get involved or take over their project. Complaining about the lack of ability of others who are doing something for free for you won't help anything.

Complaining about the lack of ability of others who are doing something for free for you won't help anything.

why on earth would anyone want their project?
it's basic, and factoring in the player base (and all the existing bullshit that goes along with it) actually makes it a net negative on the desirability scale.
utanks has more attractive pieces (but a ton of problems obv), and at this stage in time i would say starting something else from scratch or taking the game stock as tp did would be the most appealing options, but thats just me.. and it doesn't really matter as i lack the programming skills obv.

utanks is nothing more than x5
It's not a better game. It's the same game with instant map and faster driving.
Oh and it looks like a kindergartner tried to draw battlefield awards and came up with the utanks versions.
nice try tho

A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
