Monthly leaderboards
So I was thinking about this idea a little more and I know it has been suggested before. But I really think it is a good idea to bridge the gap between short term competition (tourneys) and long term competition (all time list) in this game. I know a couple of new players have discussed how it's hard to get motivation to play for the all time list when they are first starting out, and understandably so.
My suggestion would be adding a new feature to the main map; a monthly leaderboard for points with gold silver and bronze awards for 1st 2nd and 3rd. It would be similar to a month long tourney, but I don't think the award should be cups since this aspect of competition would value different skills, mainly time commitment, than a tourney. I believe that this would be a good feature that newer players and older players would be on even ground competing for. After competing for top monthly points for a few months, new players will see themselves rising up the all time list and may be motivated to start making passes.
A couple things to add to make this work: obviously I would anticipate that the main map would become much more active with older players playing more often as well competing for new awards. I know the main map emphasizes playing how people want to play as far as quitting low, fake fighting, free kills, and raid taking vs raid dodging, and a monthly points competition may encourage these less desirable attributes. So to offset these negatives I have a few proposals:
1. Rank does not matter. Total points at the end of the month is all that matters.
2. Reform the points system. Add a multiplier or just make it so you earn more points when shooting someone while you are low on fuel or being shot by multiple people.
3. Also add a lump bonus of points for deaths to offset the points you miss out on while you are spending time refilling. Dying as a higher rank earns more points than a lower rank to keep people from just repeatedly dying for points.
I propose that these changes will add a new exciting dynamic to main map play and increase activity in the main map. By reforming the points system, the current standards of main map play are preserved. People may continue to play as they please, there is just more benefit to playing "fairly".
Let me know what you think. I've really been putting some thought into this. I think it would be a new dynamic without involving any stat/award resets or a new map that won't lead to new activity . It does change the point system that we have had in place for a long time, but I think it does so in a positive way. I think battlefield used to not give you points when you shot someone who was using armors, it's not like things have never changed before.
