Award WC for donating $100
I don't like the idea of money being involved in game achievements. People buying awards, next they'll be buying promotion points, paying to remove deaths, and so forth. Maybe it's a hard fact of the world that money can buy you anything, but should that be truth in TankPit too?
Slyar, zubby, perdition, amongst others, seem to think this would be a great idea. It would bring in new players (this money would be funneled into advertisements). It would do far more good for the game than writing any traditional WC article ever has.
Discuss.

Maybe this is where the bronze and silver dots could be brought back into play?
I said in the other thread jokingly at first, but it makes more sense now to give them purpose.
Bronze Dot = 100 (200?) bucks worth of donation to the game
Silver Dot = 300? (500)?
name changes and other things would count towards this, so it could be accrued over time? Idk. I think money enabling the winnings of a WC, PH, and LB shouldnt be a thing because they were based on creativity alone. Yes they thought of something new, but TBH its not a new thought, im sure plenty of people thoguht ot that but did not want to spend the money.

Set up an official google ads page and people who donate $100 can receive a WC. All money donated should go to SW and then SW should put it into the ads. Kyle, Lucy and others can help optimize the ads.

Do whatever you think is right for you, and the game. Imho I do not think it should be purchased like this...Hard work, and dedication should be what wins nothing else. Submitting for these awards has taught me alot...I have learned things by wanting these awards....Like for example DOT I learned how to record things via video recorder...Which got me into finding things in the game, and help by any means to fix the glitch to have a smoother game. For WC TBH I can't seem to be able to do spectacular things to win WC, but IMO as long as the heart is there simple mistakes should be over looked...Not everyone has a silver tongue. Irrelavant, but WC has thought me alot about wording things properly. To take away the ability to earn the WC would diminish the award itself. If you work really hard on WC, and didn't win at least you got to learn something, and do something, or at least your WC entry helped in any sort of way that could be a booster for not winning.

I don't particularly like the idea of giving awards for money, but if it's needed to pay the bills, then by all means, do it.
Personally, I would be in favor of a different (new) award being given rather than the WC.

Classic sw taking the extreme out of every situation. where did I say $100 dollars should get your a wc? I said lucy was the first person to ever advertise on facebook and kyle was the first person ever to advertise on google, they both spent upwards to $100 and countless hours optimizing their shit. This in itself deserves an award, its far more time consuming than just giving some dude $100 and auto wc.
Of course this isnt a serious topic at all, instead sw wants to try and twist some opinions around and glorify some redic idea with mine and others names attached to it.
Or sw is serious and is looking to milk as much money from the few players left as he can before he moves on.

This comes directly from the other thread....
Jordann wrote:kyle would have been averaging around 1,000 clicks per $100 spent.
So lets assume 100 people spent $100 and accumulated a total of 100,000 direct hits to the website.
is this not what we want?
And other posts.
A flat $$ amount for WC would be required. We could lower if it's too high. Money would all go to 1 advertising setup, instead of players making their own. The amount of effort to set up keywords is quite small so I'm not considering it a major factor.

theres alot more effort in pursuing your own means of advertising than simply email transferring some dude $100. Whether the work is marginal in your eyes doesnt mean very much, the fact that no ones ever done it before proves that its not something thats as common as a donation to the website.
regardless, maybe your serious, and you really do think offering a special award for $100 is a good thing. Hell, it cant be a bad thing. Either some dudes gonna spend $100 for a wc or theyre gonna win it some other way or theyre not gonna have it. Those who want it get it, those who dont want to pay earn, and those who dont care go without.
Of course you would have to be very transparent on where the money is going. Maybe this will motivate you to work a little harder on the game, receiving hundreds to thousands of dollars for seconds of work.
Good luck with this, ill be interested to see how it turns out.

Its not just about sending you $100. I think they should spend the $100 themselves first, do the advertising themselves, you know.. doing the hard work for the award like ENDURANCE is saying. You can review it, see if it helped the game and got more players, clicks, benefits, etc. Then can award if you want too. In most cases I probably would.
Or if you just want quick cash, big donations only, could give you an award. The money doesn't have to go towards ads, maybe a pool for something else that the game could use.

I would think donate $50-100 along with your own WC entries to receive a WC. The $50-100 would be to advertise, or faster server, or whatever. I would think that some kind of effort would have to be put in still to obtain the award other then donating money. I have a lot more to say instead I am going to shut up, and try to keep out of this one.

I felt special because I got ONE special award a WC after years playing BF never got a special before. that WC I got I earned in tp. If its obtainable by money I wont feel as special no more. all the rich kiddies and their mother will have a WC.
but really its only as small pixel art gota look at it that way. If doing this makes you think that it will help on advertisements go for it.

Here's a crazy thought, how about a new donation award?
Create some badass new award that is desired by the masses and charge X amount of dollars for it or auction it. Use the cash to better the game or to pay strippers honestly idgaf, but it'd be better if it was used for the game.

Financial contributions and game play are two entirely different beasts.
Maybe someone could draw up a "new" cluster of pixels to Award monetary donations/marketing efforts (such as FB/GAds)? DIRECT TV does this all the time, they have some sort of refer a friend and receive $10 off your monthly bill for 1 year. Maybe SW could institute something similar where a player registers and enters a code or the referring players e-mail or ID and the player who made the referral receives a point. After 20 points or what ever, you earn a Award (new pixels - TBD). That's what we're talking about right (growing/marketing the game)?
Personally, I think
should all stay the same and SW awards them out as he sees fit. It's HIS game......if I were in his shoes, that's what I'd do

this topic is fucking stupid. it's a donation. not a bribe. awarding something for a donation completely stomps on the definition of "donate"

i think you should not sell any existing special award regardless of where the funds go. originally the WC was rewarded to those who were being a "war correspondent" aka a journalist, so to give out a WC for another reason than what it was originally intended for is to stray from the roots of the game. if you go this route (selling awards) you will open up the gates of hell and not only will lucifer himself haunt your dreams, but the entire situation will progress to the point where you completely sell the game out for monetary gain.
instead, here's what you should do. keep the WC exactly the way it always was -- war correspondence. have a section on the site where players can submit 1 entry per IP (so you don't get flooded by retards who can't write anything of substance and think they should submit 35 entries, also allows you to go through entries quicker). then, you can select a piece of work that you find to be interesting/entertaining/creative etc and reward that particular player.
now, if you really want to award donations, bring back the silver and bronze shields, but please, do us all a favor and don't sell out and mutilate a prestigious award such as a WC. have a nice day.

When you allow people to purchase awards, the innovation stops.
Why bother thinking of the next big thing if I can just buy my way out of it?

I think the bronze dot could be used as something of a "recruitment award" for advertising efforts that are submitted through the website (just like other special entries); SW would check to see how effective each effort was via sifting through the new accounts/players. The most effective advertising efforts each period could win the award; the respective amounts that people spend on advertising can remain classified, all that matters would be the end results.
...assuming it can be ascertained whose advertising attracted which new accounts/players, and that doing so wouldn't be a big hassle.
Some players would also become really good at advertising and hoard bronze dots every quarter but to be fair that would probably be great for the game's activity... as long as the game is ready for more activity.
Also, you'd have to make sure the system couldn't be gamed. Players clicking their own advertisements, etc.
..bronzedot because I love the borderline mythical status that the silverdot has achieved.

a simple "how did you find this game" question can be added to new registrations allowing sw to know the source of the ad that brought that specific player
also, i think if sw does end up getting donations for awards, i think he would be able to accumulate enough shekels to put up a billboard on the busiest highway in his area to advertise the game

can you imagine something as provocative as "prepare to fight for your lands! are you ready?" http://www.tankpit.com on the billboard?
and listen, it wouldn't cost more than 1.5k shekels/month to put one up directly on top/to the right of a major highway in canada. we're talking hundreds of thousands of views if strategically placed on the way out of downtown (insert huge city here)
jordan will probably use this idea and put up a billboard for utanks since he has no problem with capital.

Wait what, how did I get into this? I don't think anyone should donate to the game but think that personal advertising campaigns are worthwhile and if they have proven results based on past awards should be eligible for award consideration. But in the end I don't really care because my opinion means nothing to the person that awards specials in the game.

i think if there are going to be awards given for donations and entire new set should be made for them. letting people buy silver and bronze dots makes those who earned gold dots feel somewhat cheated. It like dilutes the value of the gold dot.
some new award would have to be created.
other than that, even though i would like it for myself, i dont think ANY other awards, LBs, WC bronze tanks, anything should be able to be bought. i have played so many games that started doing that and i hate them now. Planetside for example. its a free to play game, but then they started added new weapons that you either had to play for 40+ hours to earn or buy them. so the people who didn't or couldn't buy them would just get obliterated by those who had more money to spend. so i and a lot of people stopped playing. no game is fun when people can just buy their way to win. IE gain awards.

This been said time and time again right down to the stripper part Yet over looked time and time again .
Don't cheapen people specials by selling them .
Make a new one the people that like sporting specials will be lining up to get them within mints .The people that want to help through donations will help through donations.
I have have donated a small amount to this board and a small amount toward an upcoming advertisement plan. I won't be buying any awards though.
You could even consider posting goals along with an estimated cost of achieving them . along with updates of donations
for example
#st1 goal setting up a server in Australia (east coast Brisbane) estimated $ funds so far $- 1.00
#2nd goal advertising Google adds estimated $500.00 funds so far $100.00
#3rd goal faster server mirror servers estimated $ funds so far $
4 th goal tankpit staff slush fund for strippers $1 mill funds so far $-1.00

I had proposed this before for a lightbulb and ill go ahead say it again . here its
Referrals : every player should have a unique code . that code can be provided in advertisements . When a new player registers a question may be asked " How did you learn about the game ? Enter player code as referral. The most registers and referrals can win you a. A new award ( possible ph contest ) b. A wc.
Lets be honest wc are not that hard to win.. Lets make it a bit competitive. You have seen what a 100$ on facebook or google can do sunny !
