That idea sounds nice and is a good idea to improve activity, but we all know for a fact people would just create accounts just to refer themselves.

People will abuse this no matter how its done, and even at that what new person will go to the extra effort to type in some code when signing up for a free game? I probably would not bother typing in a code tbh.

I thought about this but as someone with multiple gold dots I don't feel as though mine would be devalued if bronze dots were awarded for advertising (after all, there's a reason mine are gold and theirs are bronze!) The bronze dot feels like a completely different award to me, it just happens to sit in the same slot. After a while they would, perhaps, become more common than the gold dot anyway. As long as bronze dots are handed out en masse, they would remain the lowest tier of dot; and in the end it's awarded for something completely different, so I don't think it devalues the gold dot at all.

It also doesn't strike me as "buying an award;" rather, it strikes me as a system in which spending money just so happens to help you win. Spending money on image editing software would probably help me win a purple heart...there are going to be people with heavy pockets who can drop more money in yes, but as far as advertising is concerned, it's great for the game if anyone were to be inclined to do so. There are also people who just happen to have thousands of twitter followers or run busy websites; someone like that could win without dropping a penny. Ultimately it would come down to the number of people each respective player is able attract, regardless of the resources at their disposal.

Anyway, it's all just tossing ideas around at this point; no serious decisions appear to have been made.

What if someone with a gold dot, buys a bronze dot..

I'm against buying awards in general but if it does happen it'd have to be a new award.

Don't think of it like that! It's nowhere near as simple as "buys a bronze dot." Effective advertising isn't as easy as reciting the alphabet, and it would also be a competition every period

Imo a PH should be the award that goes up for sale. Most of us don't even have the skills to make any graphical content.(i don't even know how to make a map)

I agree with Silver shield being awarded for high donations would make it like $300+ so it cannot be easily obtained.

Not sure if i agree with selling the classic specials though. except the Ph lol

besides the phony and artificial significance attached to the PH, there is actually very little that separates the purple heart from the combat medal. :shock:

Sure. Lets just put a price tag on all the awards, i mean fuck it, why earn it when you can buy it?

Seriously tho, I honestly dont think ANY award * Unless its a new award pertaining to donaters* should be used. Like MattyMoo said, it would make that award pretty much diluted, for the simple fact they didnt earn it. Of course, if you wanna say paying such n such for it is earning it then fine.

Either way, as you guys can see, ive logged soooo many hours these last 7-8 months.

Its your game bro, do what you want, people will either accept it or bitch about it for awhile and then move on. This is Burger King SW, you can have it YOUR way.

problem with this game now is we (for the most part) have jobs, therefore money influences our decisions.

When we were younger and played, we had to actually work to earn awards, now everyone is just "lets throw some cash that way and get one". That line of thinking my friends is whats wrong with this world...

The best solution here for everyone is to introduce a new award based on donations since awarding any of the existing ones would cheapen its desirability and worth to the community.

Remember, this is a non-sponsored, advertisement-free game developed by one man and provided to you free of charge. You shouldn't really expect much in return but I don't think an award to recognize player support of the project is unreasonable. A PH contest could be held to harness the community's pixel talent and I have no doubt we could push out some great looking stuff. At least, better than bonus.
