Tournament Problems [Fix]
I'm not sure if any of this has been mentioned already or talked about since I haven't checked anything other than tournament topics for 3 months. Keep all the flaming and trolling to everywhere else but this topic please, go make me a flaming topic or something if you want some.
It seems people think there is a problem with free kills, die downs, quit lows. People are coming up with complicated ways to stop these things from happening. (If a player has 0 shields and below x amount of fuel they can't quit low) etc etc.. but all these suggestions seem like they will just cause other problems.
I suggest to keep it real simple. SW writes a couple of sets of rules on the website for everybody to read.
"Quitting low in a tournament:
- If you quit low in a tournament, you will be banned from tournaments for a week.
- If you are caught again, you will be banned from tournaments for a month.
- If you are caught again, you will be banned permanently from tournaments."
"Giving free kills in tournaments:
- If you are caught giving a free kill in a tournament, you will be banned from tournaments for a week.
- If you are caught a second time giving a free kill, you will be banned from tournaments for a month.
- If you are caught for a third and final time you will be banned permanently from tournaments. "
^ I guess die downs could be classed as free kills. - Stick to these rules. SW's decision is final, obviously if a player can prove they are innocent then they can be unbanned/move back to strike one if they have already been caught etc.. Also with accusations running wild players would need to prove a player did one of the above. Its not hard to open up paint before a tournament so you can save a quick screenshot. You can do it while your tank is doing a move. (You've already his print screen, when moving click paint > ctrl + V then click back to your game. You can crop/save it after the tourn) Again SW's decision is final so don't pester him with IM's and emails. Just sent the accusation and proof in an email or via the contact form and wait and see what happens. SW could announce bans on the BB so players who read the BB will know he is deadly serious.
Now the 1 death and you're out rule - I am actually for this although, I feel if you are higher than lieutenant (capt +) and you have enough points to stay captain after one death, then you can stay in. (Obviously you will not want to die again because with 1 more kill you could usually secure a cup) Also lieutenants who are in the top 5 pph (Including the captains) can stay in if they die once, every possibility to win with 1 kill. Any lieutenant who isn't top 5 pph and dies is going to fall too far behind to have a chance at a cup. If there are 3 majors then any lieutenant who dies should be eliminated because there is such a small chance of getting 2 kills and enough points in the little time thats left (remember 3 majors already so the tournament must be around 45mins in - just a guestimation) There is slim to 0 chance a major will die and it's doubtful the lieutenant could get 2 kills and enough points.
^ If anybody can see anything wrong with this speak up.
Now the elimination rule people have mentioned. - I feel this should be a new type of tournament all together. iirc players are eliminated with its mathematically impossible for them to win? Its a really good idea, it would change how a tournament is played entirely because everybody would be racing to make capt to secure a spot until the end (or close to the end). I like the sound of this type of tournament but we shouldn't replace the default tournaments with this or try to combine the two. I'm 100% for this new style of tournament though.

The way I see it bans/everything being at SW's discretion is all well and good in our current climate. However, I don't see it as a sustainable solution if the game were to grow
And regarding elimination/knockout tournaments I just wanted to mention that I agree with you; I have been relatively vocal about the strengths of such a format, however I would like anyone who has been following the story to know that I am not necessarily peddling to replace the current format with a knockout format outright (unless the knockout format were to prove itself much, much superior); there's always room for more than one type of tournament!
And I also want to reiterate that one of the main reasons I am strongly in favor of the proposed knockout format is because there is currently no reward for 4th place or worse; however lately (and perhaps consequently of my mentioning it) the ideas section has been buzzing about ways to make positions 4th-25th worth something more, which would certainly temper my desire to see such an algorithm implemented.
(as a race fan, I draw parallels between tankpit and the respective points systems used in both Formula 1 and NASCAR. In F1, teams that finish worse than 10th place receive no points; so when they encounter some sort of problem (mechanical, crash, etc) they quit by leaving the track (and are encouraged to do so for the safety/integrity of the race). In NASCAR however, points are received for every position first through last - meaning teams with no chance of winning are encouraged to do the opposite of teams in F1 and try their darndest to make the best repairs they can in an effort to crawl around the racetrack (pending they can meet the minimum speed, of course) for as many laps as they can, for as many positions as they can gain, for as many points as they can possibly earn. Simply put the integrity of the competition rests on players vying for the reward.)

I'm from the UK so I've probably watched 10mins max of a NASCAR race but I understand what you said. F-1 I watch tho.
I'm in favor of more than the top 3 getting rewarded. Although I don't think the whole top 25 should be rewarded (NASCAR system) - Maybe in the future though? Right now if you just enter a tournament and rank to serg with singles you are almost guaranteed a top 25 spot. It shouldn't be THAT easy to earn a "point" or whatever it is you had in mind. However I do feel something like the top 10 should be rewarded (F-1 system).
Now you've seen the "tournament points" topic. Why could that not be worked into the game?
1st (gold) - 25 pts.
2nd (silver) - 20 pts.
3rd (bronze) - 15 pts.
4th - 7pts
5th - 6pts
6th - 5pts
7th - 4pts
8th - 3pts
9th - 2pts
10th - 1pt
(The points system could be worked, just example numbers but I feel 1st, 2nd and 3rd should be much more points than finishing 4th or below.)
With the new "tournament stats" for each registration this could make it possible. The "top 25 tournament points" page would show "usernames" for the top 25 accounts. So this would make people want to re-cup tanks, delete pointless tanks and make new ones also make people stick to 1 reg. Then to take it a step further you could click on the user name in the top 25 tournament points list and it would go to their tournament stats page.
^ I kind of rushed this, it needs a lot of work but you can see where I'm going with it right? - Eventually players will be able to see everybody else's stats, usernames in top lists, avoiding the whole make 100's of regs and 100's of tanks to pointlessly cup etc..
