Tournaments
Here's a quicky to help cover any/all of the problems that we have had re:tournaments.
How about a quick disclaimer in the "Account" page with a notice similar to that displayed for the email verification requiring players to agree before playing tournaments?
I'm talking about a quick sentence and a few bullet points:
Before you are allowed to compete for a cup in a tournament, please read and agree to the following rules. Violating any of these will result in a ban from tournaments at our discretion.
[] Accept
[] Decline
[Submit]
Purpose: Establish uniform and universal rules for all to abide to. Delineate the consequences and nature of judgment ahead of time.
Right now, banning from tournaments is something that we know because we're here and we're graced by Sailor Wolf's omnipotent presence but it's not really uniform nor are the rules known to any of the few newbies that there might be.

I agree. Currently, there is no obvious rule placed anywhere on the website or the game itself that explains that giving free kills during tournaments is not allowed. It feels like an unofficial rule.
Adding on to wardizzle's idea, another possible idea could be to have a custom loading screen when entering a tournament that says "This is a tournament, giving free kills is not allowed. It can be detected and you will be banned from tournaments." instead of the usual "A java program is being something something." Or have it sent as a message from the supervisor with the green text in the action log.

I thought about those but ran into two hypothetical problems.
1. The load screen doesn't take the same amount of time for everyone nor does it stay up long enough for everyone to be able to read through it.
2. The message could easily get lost in the flood of entering tank names or in-game messages.

I was planning to put a warning "alert" on the play page during tournaments once I finish reworking the alert system.
Your idea is good, too.
I could even put a screen before the loading screen for tournaments where players would have to agree to follow the rules.
And I think I added a message from supervisor at 30 minutes saying not to give FKs.
I still want to consider solutions that won't require moderating/banning, but am not sure any good ones exist. I'm skeptical about kicking newbs from the tournaments early. I've also thought about somehow rewarding players for placing in the top25, so it's not completely pointless to fight over 16 vs 17, for instance.

i like this

PRIDE

HELL YEEEEAAAH.........that's what I'm talking about!!!!
If you place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd -
If you place 4th - 10th -
If you place 11th - 15th -
As long as 15 or less enter, I'm a "shoe-in" for
Maybe there's a formula to divy up the Cups based on the amount of players and final standings.
WEENIE BOY
P.S. "Shoe-In" providing Red-1, Blue-1, or Purple-1 don't OUT-BEAST me. And TBH, in the 15 Tourneys I've entered, I'm averaging 20th per out-ing - so I'm just outside that
(definitely makes you want to work/try harder).

kicking players out of a tournament imo is a move in the wrong direction.

possibly to promote regular play. Whomever gets the most point in a month of tournies gets gold, second points gets silver, third points get bronze. Gives the overly active yet kill challenged players a new objective. This idea could definitely be edited and altered to fit your needs sunny.

tournament leaderboard.
25 points for 1st
1 point for 25st
points tally up to show whos the best (leaderboard)
spend points on things that would normally cost money (name changes, color changes, more tank slots, etc)

To promote main map play, maybe a point every hour or few hours as well?

2 really strong ideas here. some type of points system outside of the promotion points is something that should be explored more thoroughly and would especially be suitable for a game like this.

Absolute golden ideas. The point system doesn't have to be an award, just recognition. I think we should bring back a monthly newsletter and include the top tournament players top map players. Even have a poll for people to vote for their favorite player.
