performance settings

would it be possible to have a "performance" level set for the game. Say like players who need to be a little faster can sacrifice game detail in order to gain a bit more speed. where as others who enjoy all the graphics can keep it very detailed.

What is your setup? A toaster plugged into a potato with 56k modem?
