New tournament deactivation rule.

Postby Krusty » Wed Nov 13, 2013 4:46 pm

[Copy and pasted what I sent to SW]

New tournament deactivation rule.

Basic: Players can die as many times as they want in tournaments with out getting kicked. Only their first death will count as a promotion kill to the other players.

More details: Players can still gain bonus points and equipment from killing other players for their second death onwards. Some players will miss some of the deactivations and still think it is worth raiding somebody (adding another attention factor to the game (remembering who has died already)). So it doesn't make them immune to raids.

People play the game for fun, I know when I am really far behind in points I will try to get kills even when I know I don't have enough time to rank. The idea of getting the kills yourself instead of somebody who could actually place with a kill makes it much more interesting for everybody. The idea of getting kicked after one or two deaths makes the total number of players slowly go down and in some tournaments results in there been only 5-10 players left playing. Surly it would be more fun if everybody could play until the end. My suggestion would make this possible with out the downside of players giving out several promotion kills.

Players are asking for a 1 death and you're out rule. They are only asking for this because any deaths after the first seem like die down kills although usually the player is trying to survive and fill up to continue. My suggestion would stop all the die down related promotion kills AND let players continue to play and have fun. This benefits both the players in a winning position (because they have more people to fight/more people to make it harder or easier to cup depending on how you look at it) and the player who has died can continue to play, simply for the fun factor. They may even be lucky enough to land some kills themselves and cup or land a kill that would stop somebody else from cupping if they got it.

Benefits:

- More active tournament.
- More players seeing the tournament through until the end.
- More players to fight/raid resulting in more 'legit' deactivations.
- No more "die down" ranks given.
- Players can still gain bonus points/equipment making it still worth while raiding a target that has already died. (Could be a good tactic for a quick fill or a waste of time if you choose to chase and not get the kill)
- Players can continue to play for fun even when they have been deactivated.
- It would stop players crying about people taking raids over and over after a death since the kill will not rank anybody. Plus with them been able to die as many times as they want it will be a lot easier to spot a tank purposely dieing and a tank trying to survive while trying to re-fill.

Bad points:

- Players could repeatedly die over and over again, they do this anyway only this time no promotions will be given. You can still ban players you see fit for abusing the "x amount of deaths and you are out" rule been lifted.
- Players can still give a free kill to a friend/player they want to win. (This has already been a problem, it doesn't happen much any more because you have been banning people and im sure if you keep banning people who abuse this then it will not be a problem)
- Players could enter and try to die right away to make them less of a target for the rest of the tournament. (You could ban players for using this tactic since it will be very low of them. I highly doubt players will do this though since it will waste far to much time when they should be filling.)

To be honest, I can't think of any "new" bad points to this. It will change the tournament slightly because players will have to remember who has died and who hasn't. It wont change the tournament in a bad way any more than any of the other suggestions made by players. I can only see it changing in a good way. I can see some crying about "I killed 'x tank' and it didn't promote me, I didn't see him get deactivated" but that is clearly that players fault for not paying attention to who has died and who hasn't.

Its a very simple rule that could be put on the news and tournament page so players understand it. "Once a player as been deactivated, any deactivation after their first will not count as a promotion kill". Newbs will still raid for the fun of it. Vets will still raid for the equipment/bonus points and even just the fun of it. Players will also avoid raiding these players if all they want is a promotion kill. It also gives the player who died a chance at filling since they might not be chased again right away because their rank is no good for a promotion.

I could go on and on about this idea. I think ive covered most of it though. I hope you like the idea and if you wish to discuss it feel free to get in touch or even run it by the community to see how they feel.

Both work for me, not against the crossed out idea at all, I just feel it will more interesting if people don't notice people die etc.. it would mean players wasting time chasing somebody and it will be their own fault for not paying attention/missing the kill in the message box.

Would add that little bit more skill (if you can call it that) paying more attention to what is happening off screen (in the message box).

Not a fan. If a player dies and decides to make an attempt to continue, I'm most likely going to engage them and be on them like white on rice.

Yes.. only players will not gain a promotion if they get the kill on any death after their first. They'll still get the equipment and bonus points but no promotion. Its to stop die downs happening with out adding a 1 death and you are out rule.

This was a flaw in the idea. Players could die right away purposely so they can avoid raids all tourn. I'm sure they can be banned just like people who give fks. It would be basically cheating.

But, I guess if a bot gets the kill then their second kill could promote people. This would make the idea even more interesting because sometimes bots do get kills.

So basically the person who died has a chance to cup if they continue, but me, as a competitor, has no chance to kill them after they've died? Yeah, no thank you.

You are looking at it wrong. They are still at a disadvantage because they have just died. Unless they are really far ahead of you when they died it wouldn't make a difference if they could continue. They will still be raided/attacked by people they just can't rank anybody from dieing again.

How about morphing some of my other idea into this one.

One they have died they can continue for points only, they can't rank from deactivating players, the player they deactivate can still promote somebody on their next kill, they do not demote players.

This idea is getting awful tricky and fast. I'm not going to change it. The original idea is good (opinion) just because el feels he'll be at a disadvantage to a player who just lost half their equipment and probably only has half the points he has, doesn't mean it shouldn't be used. - El, try to help work the idea into something that could work please, the general idea is so there isn't a 1 or 2 death kick rule (more players play it through until the end) also it stops die downs (fks will be obvious to spot and these players will be dealt with)

Krusty, I hope SW shoots down this idea. The only RULE that needs to be applied to tournaments is you must reach the rank of LT or achieve 10 hours with that tank ID on one of the maps. Maybe when you reach the rank of LT a message pops up saying, "Congrats, you are now eligible to enter Tournaments. Every tournament that I've looked up, people are creating "new" tank ID's (no stars, tanks, honors, sword, etc....) just to play in the tourney (and possibly save their reputation). What gives? Why not be proud of your tank? And if you already have a cup, try to win another ultimately denying someone who does not have a cup that opportunity. Having 3 or 4 tournaments a week and every top 3 tank gets a cup but we never see that tank makes no sense. If you want bragging rights, bring in KRUSTY THE CLOWN and dominate and win the tournament (<----example). I saw a General in the top 10, think Rising Tide or Beard (??), with no cup. Gimme a break! People wanna die to help out their buddy, they will be exposed and banned. I agree that Tournaments can be rigged if you're working with partners, but you can't stop em. Narrowing the field (eligibility wise) will put an end to cheaters as they will be exposed and in this game, REPUTATION carries you a loooooong way.
My 2 Cents.
WEENIE BOY - I RULE! :star3: :silvertank: :heroic:

P.S. I just entered my 2nd tournament today and had to leave at about the 35 min mark. No big deal cause I was in 20th place. When I get my new PC for x-mas (38 days baby), you will see WEENIE BOY in every tournament going for the Gold!
