Replacement for missles!
General Thoughts:
With booby traps. Take the missiles away, they are almost pointless. Instead give tanks the ability to place booby traps on equipment or fuel. You can fill your booby traps by equipment boxes as normal. Perhaps also rank = strength? Say a Generals trap does 400 fuel dmg, or removes 20 shields? And for each shield not removed (because of insignificant amount of shields) 20 fuel dmg is given. SO if a player trips a generals trap and only has 15 shields, they also receive a lose of 100 fuel.
Amount:
General: 5 traps total on field
Colonel: 4 Traps total on field
Major: 3
Captain: 2
Luit -> Recruit: 1
Damages:
General: 400 fuel dmg, or 20 shields
Colonel: 350 fuel dmg or 15 shields
Major: 300 fuel dmg or 10 shields
Captain: 250 dmg or 5 shields
Luit -> Recruit: 200 dmg or 1 shield
Traps are set off by any opposing tank collecting the fuel or equipment
Kills received by traps count as normal deaths in all aspects? Suggestions?
Placement:
One idea for placement is that a booby trap be placed when the players right clicks on an equipment or fuel. This would still allow for left clicking and holding, and right clicking and holding to pick up items.
Another idea is to have a red and green "light" beneath where the booby traps icon would appear. With the toggle of a hot key, a player can go from picking up equipment and fuel as normal ( red light on ), to planting the traps by following the same procedure , but with the booby traps turned on ( green light on ). Or the same on off system as currently in place.
Also I suggest players cannot lay traps on top of other peoples traps. No need for there to be 20 traps on any given equipment. Would be funny to see though.
Removal:
Traps will be removed when either of these occur:
1) Trap is set off by opposing color tank
2) A similar colored tank picks up / uses the booby trapped fuel or equipment. ( The trap is not returned to the tank of origin )
3) You the player pick up the equipment or fuel. ( Trap is returned to your tank, but only if it is needed. IE; you have under the allotted amount )
4) Player leaves the map, and all of the traps that player set are removed automatically.
Messages:
In the event someone does to a booby trap, let the messages say:
"Exodus has been deactivated by a trap set by TankHunter!"
In the event someone sets one off and doesn't die:
"Exodus has set off a Trap!"
And in the event a player has set off your trap, you shall receive this message:
"Exodus has set off your trap! Coordinates ( 111, 151 )"

aka Bombs that were around in '97-'98 except just not as fancy as you made your's sound.
Also back then you evaded getting 'bombed' by those few random EQ's by dropping your fuel with shields down when you filled up on equipment for those who weren't around then or don't remember it very well. ALLSTAR41 can confirm, he was around back then.

Yea, Josh is right. The norm back then was to deposit all your fuel, pick up the eq and move on. But in order to protect our fuel, we'd mine the area a bit. Good times...
