Should there be more tournaments?
I think that tournaments are one of the most fun things about TP and as a busy student I rarely have time to play, but I can schedule around a 1 hour tournament a little! Vote what you think and maybe the tankpit gods will honor us with more tourneys. I'd like to think like 1 every other day during the week and 3-4 on the weekend? Obviously I don't want to take away from them by having them too much, but I am thirsty.

Scheduling more of them can't possibly be a bad idea. Would like to see a month of say 20-25 tournaments trialled.

fridays sats and sundays should almost be mandatory with one or two during the week. Provides the most comptetion, same goes with after work hours for most week days. But i can understand the need for mid day tournaments as well, although the turnout rate is like nil.
S M T W TH F SAT
S M T W TH F SAT
Those two formulas i think provides the best balance in tournament scheduling used bi-weekly or w/e. Just my opinion but keeps a balance of tournaments and main map. And main map tends to heat up surrounding tournaments most times as well. Having long gaps in between tourneys is detrimental.

theres been debate for years now whether or not more tournaments is good bad or neutral for the game. I feel like anything that attracts a crowd and activity for the game is a good thing, some feel like tournaments take away from the main map and others feel like if more tournaments were scheduled then it would water down the 'prestige' of cups.
I feel like the game should have a tournament every day. And those who feel like more tournaments is a bad thing because of saturation is probably just fearful of more players having cups

I mostly agree. My concern is that if there is a tournament every day we may actually have a smaller crowd on a regular basis. If I know there are 7-10 tournaments in a week, I can guarantee that I can only make time for half or less of those. I am sure there are others like myself. So that means instead of one tournament that I look forward to and at times schedule time for - we will have an endless supply of tournaments with less importance in trying to play every one possible.
Less importance with smaller crowds. This would frustrate tournament players with a smaller pool of potential kills also.
...I am not saying this would definitely happen, but it seems like it could.

I dont see why anyone would view more tournaments as a bad thing, its the height of competition in this game. Fearful of peple having more cups somehow makes sense when i think of some people but i dont think it devalues cups, you still have to work your ass off for it.
More tourneys also = more chances for newer less experienced players.
maybe feb could be a trial month, just drop a tourney every day, see how it goes. I doubt people will complain.

I'd be okay with every other day as a trial for February, and then we can gauge the activity of the main map and tournament turn out.

i dont think more tournaments = smaller crowd at all. If people go out of their way to make tournaments, than theyll continue to go out of their way to make more. Tournaments are a vital part of this game, and if they could some how be adjusted to have a bigger purpose than just an award and competition they could really accelerate the activity.
I agree with feb being a tourny madness month as a trial. The only thing it would skew is the tournament leaderboard as now cups could be gained at a higher rate. not like thats a huge issue though.

The downside could be that it wouldn't be as important to play individual tournaments, and hence the player base would be more divided amongst them.
If there are too many tournaments, some people would feel that cups are devalued and not bother to play them at all.
IMO there needs to be a balance.
There could probably be more tournaments, and I can definitely envision a day when there could be daily tournaments, but I don't think that day is today.

tbh, tournaments are far more enjoyable than the actual map for plenty of reasons. I highly doubt that those same people who love to play the one or two tournys they can make a week wouldnt be complaining that now theres too many and they dont want to play. As long as the playerbase is there for the tournaments its all good. Right now tournaments pull around 30+ per tourny.
What if you tried a madness week? Maybe for one week or even ten days theres a tournament every day, and see how the turn out is.

I wouldn't go as far as one a day i was thinking maybe 1 or 2 tourneys added every other week. I think too many will start decreasing value/activity and so on.

I think we could try to do a guaranteed 4 per week, instead of every day. That would be exactly 16 per month, giving us a few more than we currently have.
Always have 1 tourney Saturday and 1 tourney Sunday, then do a rotating schedule.
Something like this....
Week 1: Sat - Sun - Monday - Wednesday
Week 2: Sat - Sun - Tuesday - Thursday
Week 3: Sat - Sun - Wednesday - Friday
Week 4: Sat - Sun - Monday - Friday

its the same exact 10 people that cup every tournament anyway, whats the difference between them cupping and playing more often or keeping the tournaments spread out like they are now?

IMO, the more the better as far as activity levels go. It would also give the still cupless players better odds at cupping and more practice.

My opinion on...
- More tournaments = better chance for noobs
- or different times = better chance for noobs
So lets say we have an average of 25 tournament players.
*10 of them are the hardcore, rarely miss a tournament players
*10 of them are the "make some, miss some" players.
*5 of them are noobish players
So we increase the amount of tournaments, what will that do?...
*It will likely not change the average of the first group of hardcore players: 10
*Lets say it cuts into their average by 40% the amount of players that "make some, miss some": 6
*Noobs are likely not devoted enough to make everyone so we decrease average to: 3
So now we have an average tournament of about 19 people that will still have the same amount of veteran hardcore players with a smaller average of "hit and missers" and an even smaller portion of "noobs". The point that I am making is that no matter how many tournaments SW adds, and no matter how awkward he makes the time on them - the hardcore players will be there waiting to compete and the noobs will not have any better chance at winning. It just gives the hardcore players better chances of winning since they don't have to compete with as many "hit and missers".

Without testing it first it's impossible to make assumptions, especially the redic assumptions posted above this post.
The way I see it, more tournaments means more people login to the game than otherwise. That's a good thing. Whether it's the same hardcore players or not is irrelevant. But again, until it happens we won't know the outcome so for me to sit here an start spewing numbers and pretend I know facts when really it could go either way would be silly on my part (and anyone else who tries)

I have fun, win or lose. Obviously I play to win, and every tournament I try to play to the end regardless of my chance at winning to gain practice. More tournaments at different times = better chances for noobs, I agree wholeheartedly. Obviously people keep coming back to tournaments even if they don't win, which is why you'll see the same players over and over again. I think my rationale is after a tournament that I didn't win, I have my mistakes in my mind of what I did wrong and I know if there is another one soon I can improve. If I wait a week, chances are I'll make the same mistake/not want to switch up my playing style.
SW, do you have data about the different time zones that different people play? Perhaps that kind of data can be used to spread the times in conjunction to when the main map is most active. I apologize if you already do this, just want to make sure the tournament times aren't random and happen to favor one area of the world more then others.
Also, maybe see how many different accounts that play in a tournament in a month to get a better gauge of the number of unique tournament players.
I'd love for there to tourneys every day, but I think the main problem for me is the giant gap between tournaments and if I have to miss one, the next one won't be for a while. I need my fix!

Everybody and their mother already has a cup. I say less tournaments

Fewer tournaments only enhances the (ten or so) people that consistently play them to continue to tradeoff cupping at a greater rate while the adequately skill, but busier players have fewer opportunities to even play a tournament.
Personally, I don't play the tournaments for the sole purpose of winning a shiny pixel award that I can showoff in the main map; I mainly play them for the competitive challenges of eq management, bettering my pph/pace and to test my abilities with other players. Cups are as common as death medals (or recently more); tightening the tourney schedule will do nothing to alter this because new talent isn't coming to this game in droves (our player base is small and dedicated) so newbs cupping consistently does not present a problem if tournaments were more frequent.
I think everyone can agree that tournaments bring higher activity in the main map too. A drastic increase like one everyday would be overkill, but 4 every week in a given month (like others have pointed out) can do the game's activity levels no harm.
