You can't copy sprites from other games.. they need to be originals, otherwise they can't be used. :-)

then why is boardwalk being used right now since that chest is from zelda?

Zoomed in and labeled for comparison:
I was under the impression it was the sprite from Zelda as well, but perhaps it was only inspired - if anything.

Everything on boardwalk was made from scratch. Gl to all who try.

You guys did a really good job - very talented.Jordann wrote:You'll have to edit the mountains one by one and piece em together. It takes a long time to complete and probably longer to start. I'm definitely curious to what others can create (without copying others artists work)
I've been messing around with editing custom sprites for this competition and I'm finding trying to piece together where each rock is to be very meticulous. How the hell did you piece them together? I guess on Boardwalk the terrain sprites are all pretty similar looking so perhaps you found a way around that. The hard part will most definitely be making custom terrain though, in my opinion. The equipment and mines/fuel/ferry much easier.
Jordann wrote:Thanks. Honestly, for the mountains, you just have to figure out what you want to design and make your first tile. Then make the next one to the left, then to the right, then above and below. Then make the corners. Piece em together and find out which ones to replace on the sprite sheet. It's not easy at all and I don't imagine too many people will bang a complete tile set out without spending a couple dozen hours or know exactly what to do.
Jordann wrote:The question I have tho is, are we only making the tile set for map or will custom tank sprites etc also qualify for a ph? If someone re did every single graphic in the game for a theme (say Mario) will they only qualify for one ph even if others also qualify for a ph just editing the ground tiles?
This is a lot of work and I can imagine a lot of people editing the easy graphics.

SW wrote:All sprite sheets are up for editing individually, or as a "theme". Obviously the magnitude of the submission will be important, ie. changing dust color not on par with whole new tiles.
