Should stats be reset?

Hi all,

I'm going to try rehosting TankPit. Cross your fingers as this isn't my area of expertise. 8-)

Currently waiting for DNS to reset, no mail server, and missing optimization on the server so it might be a bit laggy.

But most importantly... the only backup of TankPit accounts/tanks/stats I have is from May. Apparently the other devs could not salvage any more recent version from the hosting company. :(

So the question is, should the stats be completely reset, or continue on from May?

P.S. - The reset will probably not happen until I get the other things working.

should clarify if total reset or just stats (but not awards, or not certain awards (specials, cups, etc)]

i voted clean start but keep special awards. i understand the rationale behind all 3 and honestly would be fine with any, but i think the one i choose makes the most sense.

such a hard decision to make for something like this.

the more i think about it, starting with the stats from may might just be obnoxious, as much as it would suck to be put back at 0 it might help get the game back on track to being super competitive. maybe or could breed more pph leftys. idk. no players should lose their special awards because theyve already been implemented and other people could just use old entries for new awards.

I wish there was a way to have an honesty system here and just have people go about getting their stats reset one tank at a time we have the top 100 to go by. i remember all my tanks placements and hours, tanks with over 50 hours should be able to get replaced. **sighs**

haha nachos its a sad truth but theres no way they can recover that data. :( best to cut our losses and try again with tankpit 2.0

Special awards don't include cups right?

What about awards you were set to win in September? I have 99.99% certainty that there was a DOT coming my way. On the first of the month I e-mailed them the method to recreate a glitch that, on the last day of August, they told me they didn't know how to recreate. Video proof and everything. There is literally no way anyone could have beat me to that DOT.

Are we certain that some kind of "honor system restore" is out of the question? We can't just get someone typing in stats and awards by hand? A community-driven restore that's fact-checked by everyone could totally work imo, could go with screenshot evidence + eyewitness accounts

I voted for a fresh start with specials, would be pretty silly not to give those back to people that earned them, even if I'm not included in that group. To explain why a fresh start, if it'll possibly boost activity making everyone start evenly, then so be it. I play for nostalgic purposes anyways, so long as its not completely gone, I'm a happy camper to simply be playing again.

the way i see it

starting over from april (lol??) just sets a terrible precedent and screws some people while rewarding others.. for no reason. also there are other reasons why this is a terrible idea and i think sw knows these without me going into too much detail ;\

starting over from 0 (with specials or not, although preferably with) gives you a fresh race which has always sparked activity, and obviously doesn't randomly screw/reward certain people

Reset stats most definitely if you don't have a back up within the last 5 months..
Keep special awards, by special awards I mean :dot:

Also let the person who recieved those special awards chose the tank name they wish to put those awards on..

2 maps imo, 1 map Desert, 1 map rotating. :laugh:

i wonder if you could use the (not so)wayback machine to re-award cups from may-sep

but then people whos tanks didnt exist in may gotta remake, and maybe people trying to claim cups on tank names that they didn't actually play..

Cups are easy enough to re-win.

I'm agreeing with 987 so far.

Anyways you have time to vote. This is thinking ahead. I want to get everything running & make a few updates to the game before starting fresh.

If you are starting over in may, I might be #1 :evillaugh:

But...if you have to go that far back, I say it's best to just start over with tankpit2. We'll keep our True top 25 and records from Tp and those who want to can start over and make new lists, etc. I think that would be best.

Edit: although specials would still be relevent if you're still using the new maps, dot ideas, etc. so maybe put everyone's specials on their new tanks? Even if they go with different names imo. Seems best to me :shrug:

but ye cups are easy enough, but if you go reset you'd also be stripping cups from people pre-may (essentially everything), right?

What if we reset points but restore everything else?

So for example weekend nachos would restart at 0 points just like everybody else, but his endgame stats would be reincarnated. That way if he wants finish it off to rusty he can, even though he'd have like a ~300 hour surplus pph-wise. People could get their swords back and work on finishing their tanks off how they originally wanted in the new game, but they would restart at 0 points just like everybody else.
