Add a raid taking bonus, maybe a multiplier depending on how many are shooting/how low you are, add some other factors that contribute to points and then you have a completely new system which needs to be separated from the current. Can keep current stats but this happened at utanks also and there was basically no baseline, some people exploited glitches to get almost 1million an hour pph.

Please explain to me how "the game should be played"? :clueless: Cause what your saying in your post is not how your supposed to play the game in my eyes. Also, dont tell me how to play a game. If it is allowed and noone says anything, then what is the problem with doing it? Not my fault that i get 25+ kills a game on Battlefield 3 by camping sniping and you keep dying thanks to me. Just play smarter :smart:

what are you going on about? Im talking about promoting more action. The developer himself said he wants to eliminate 1v1ing from being the most effective way to play. So drastically changing the way the game logs points would be a massive change. Big changes like that usually needs a refresh. think of it as a new edition to the series. You can still kick my ass sniping in a corner, just itll be Battlefield 4.

edit: also, im not the one who makes the decision. Its sun wolf, and at the current pace of things I figure sometime in late 2014 hell have made his mind up on this. So no need to worry now, or possibly ever.

It's not about eliminating 1v1, but there will be some changes to detract from faking.

Bonus for fighting back against bad odds will be extra.

It's not about telling anyone how to play, it's about deciding how the scoring system will work and how different play styles will be rewarded/balanced. Currently it works one way, but it's not carved in stone.

I would love to see that new point system I talked about a few pages back put into play, however, I realize that a sacrifice may have to be made in order to obtain that end. I would love to play from my current standing forward with a new point system in play, but out of fairness, I'm not sure if that would benefit the entire community.

I'll have to ponder this for a little to decide whether I am for or against resetting the stats again.

Not to change the subject but since this is talking about where the game is headed.. Activity, at least when I have been on has been pretty good. Some solid Red Vs Blue the past two nights. You get a little bit of orange and purple into the mix at times too. I've seen a handful of new players along with a nice use of the BB on site too. With winter right around the corner (for most) I wouldn't count the game out just yet. I know I will be putting some more hours in with the snow on it's way.

Lot of fun last night. That kind of activity is what make the game so much fun.

So is there any updates on the points system or is it on the back burner right now? Just an idea that probably has been said, could we have a side field with the new points system and see if it even works before we blow up the game and start new? :loading:

How come other games don't stat reset when updating? No game out of alpha/beta phase needs to have a full reset to update. If so then the game might as well not be a "bf" style game.

"Other games" are usually newer games that have a full professionally designed stats system from the beginning. If they were based on old games and were being slowly modernized and the stats system was being changed, perhaps they'd reset too....

I've only played a handful of games, but I've seen a stats resets before when the ranking system was being changed, rating decay added to ladders, ladders split and added together. No system is perfect but it's usually the old games that have the long-term insight into the flaws and what to improve.

Would it be plausible to set a "stop date" for stats... and any accumlated stats after such date and until reset is ready to be done, can be credited to players tanks when the reset does take place?

In theory... Set stop date to December 31, 2013 at 11:59 pm Eastern Time.... and any points, kills, hours, deaths, and awards accumulated after that is temporarily stored until Reset takes place, say in a couple months... where the player has the option to start completely fresh, or at least start with what ever they accumulated between 1/1/14 and Reset?

That way no playing time is wasted....

A lot of games I have BETA tested, and played threw out their existence, and some of them I still play....They have almost all had 1 stat reset. That's why I understood a stat reset, but in these games only 1 stat reset happened. Most of the time you got to keep your stats, and got to redistribute how you saw fit...IE special awards....Sucks time gets wasted, and points you worked for, because in other games with stat reset you get to keep points or the equivalent. A few of these games are...World of tanks, and Runescape. So you have to accept that stat's will get reset in a game you are BETA testing. What you should be expecting is a better point system, and a better game to be enjoyed. Just keep sending in those glitches you find, and all those good ideas on how to improve the game for the better, and I'm sure SW is making sure everything is falling into place.

tankpit was never in a beta stage and if so that clearly wasn't laid out. looks like utanks 2.0 with only one person running it.

Me using the word BETA is a example. A way to make myself feel ok with the stat reset, but hey it works for me. TBH it feels like a BETA test also...Constantly sending in glitches I find/ stat reset/ constant things being implemented.

Tragic's post scared me a little bit, honestly. I hope if there were anything wrong and the reset is inevitable, let us know well before hand so I can rank up and finish. I been putting in a good amount of hours the past few days. I feel like SW should just make a topic lying down the FACTS so we know what's up.

I personally think that SW is not some programmer that is out to screw everyone. He does not make quick rash decisions, you and I can be very confident that when he does take action - it will be very thought through and done a certain way because it will be the best option for the game and its loyal members who make it up. I am personally plugging many hours into Tankpit at the moment, and I have no worries about where Tankpit is headed. I know it is fun now and will continue to be in the future because the owner of it has played just as long as I have and he continues to play - thats a very good sign.

Man I wouldn't have been able to pick up on the key points in your post without the underlining, thank jebus for that :lulzz: . SW has already said that this is all theoretical anyways; it is not a set in stone reset and/or new points system. I agree w/ you that SW as the sole operator of TP is a good move (who else in this community would be as committed? not me and not talking ut devs) and tank pit retaining its entertainment value for this community.

I still would like to see a second map that would replace practice (cause let's be honest, only 1-2 people play it and once a week at that) and allow SW to experiment with point systems, code, glitches, et cetera in this new map while also giving tp players the opportunity to make an impact on a fresh top 25. It could reorganize teams, dominating colors, play styles and basically let players have a more battlefield-like playing experience even if it is only two map options as opposed to the old 8 maps that were available. Obviously, anymore than two open maps with this small a community would be a waste of SW's time and create a predominant map (desert in '07). Could also promote the mapmakers in this community to create new maps and reenergize people to win a ph or other special in a new map contest.

"Specials are the way to most tank pit players' hearts."

IMO getting revealed or revealing himself as the dev (don't know which actually happened) made the players' influence more hands-on as far as finding glitches, ideas, creating maps, being more involved in the development aspects of the game but overall seems like a mistake.

Took a look at some screen shots, and it looks just like the old thing -- neat. Did Bonus sell the IP? Not too long ago SW was getting banned every other week from whatever BF forum that was the current fad; now he's the dev?

LOL Nearly the exact same thing I said when I first came back to Tankpit like a year ago...lmao

Bonus sold the game to Sunwolf. He and he alone runs it and operates it. As far as I know, the game is clear of any speedhacks, which is more than bonus could boast...

But this topic is not about that. Its about the future of Tankpit and where its headed in the future...

People grow up, it happens all the time. Considering how most of you were younger than all of the guys I played with and we don't hold you being little faggots against you.

You guys should probably make this less about bashing SW and more about being constructive because at the end of the day, it's his decision. Especially if you want the game to grow at all.

Plus, most of you are far too old to be acting like petulant children over a game that's past its prime.

Bonus sold the game to Sunwolf.

Not quite, ISO Andy's post on the old uTanks forum about who exactly had the game for more details, but basically Appaloosa's assets (including bonus and everything that went with it) ended up in the hands of some random company or businessmen first. The way I understand it, bonus wasn't involved in the final transaction.

I don't really understand/remember everything that happened after that though, and I'm not sure I want to speculate lest I give anyone the wrong ideas

afaik, unbent media owned the assets of bonus. andy and kevin were in talks with unbent media on purchasing the rights for battlefield, either to resurrect it or ensure it couldnt be used against them. Andy, being the great businessman he is, threw out a whopping 3 figure sum of $100 for the rights/content of battlefield. Unbent countered with an offer of andy/kevin doing all the work to get the game running and 50/50 the profits (lol). andy refused, and posted all the information on the forums not excluding personal emails/company names.

sw, mad at the ut staff eternally, brought back tankpit to crush utanks. since the community cared more about nostalgia then pure potential tankpit took over activity (add into the fact that utanks actually 'shut down' and kicked everyone out of the beta, it wasnt too hard actually). theres my completely true, and no doubt bias take on what happened.
