At that point, I will generally give myself 15-20 seconds by either making an oddly long teleport, or I will teleport one way so that homings follow, then teleport back the opposite direction. This gives me a moment to possibly grabs a couple boxes, as well as ditch the slowest raiders of the pack. Generally, raiders are a lot more persistent that what went on today, as I use the same exact survival tactics every time when low on armor/duals/ER in a raid, and I die 85% of the time, at a minimum -- I have 15 deaths in 20 hours of play.
I have to say, this would be considered really smart in real warfare. Kudos to you, you are a good candidate for Guerrilla warfare.

Yeah bro, but I did track you for 2-3 tele's I would see your tank for a split second then it would tele... I couldn't even lock a homer on it. That to me is running like hell! Then we stopped and ownzorg caught up and called for back up, we didn't bother chasing as it was a waste of time.
Also SeveR isn't WSM, he is a fake, He just used the name because WSM taught him how to play some and they where close. He never claimed to be WSM lol
Alright, let me rephrase what I was saying, I didnt really mean to come across as having people think that I believe players should be "trying to survive" instead of using raid etiquette. What I meant to get across is that a raid taker is going to do that, and I wish raiders would take it more upon themselves to follow through with the kill, instead of just giving up and blaming the raid taker for violating all of this etiquette. If they did this i promise you those people breaking the raid etiquette would die eventually.
Also didnt mean I do those tactics. Im probably guilty of filling my EQ all the time during a raid, but I dont speed tele. I honestly didn't know filling your EQ was against raid etiquette.

I figure the only rule a raid taker has is to stay alive, everything else should be on the group of raiders.
so all of those annoying quirks people do: teleport constantly, use shields and leave to get more EQ when out, and everything else except for low quitting can be outweighed if the group would stick to task and keep attacking the raid taker.
Might be harder, but at some point that constant teleporter is going to get low and not find any fuel, that shield user is gonna run out of shields and not find EQ.
So instead of whining and quitting as soon as a raid taker starts doing one of these things, just keep attacking him. The only legit problem you can complain about is LQing
btw I try not to teleport long or get eq. whenever possible, but if I know the raiders are just gonna quit attacking me when I do thats just my scapegoat.
aren't you big blue?
i see you hit / and then smashed q to go write a novel
alright....u see me hit / and then smashed q to go write a novel.....ima guess that means you saw me quit low? Lies

While I think this is pretty dumb myself I also think there should be some mercy here. I actually tele'd far away twice yesterday and spammed whatever after doing so. The reds that were in early in the evening were mining every fuel they saw at the whole top of the map and they tried to catch me there in a raid 2 seperate times, and I don't think thats acceptable because I watched them do it while raiding me. They would jump me, mine fuel, jump me, mine, and so on. I think teleing out of a place that is impossible to survive in is fine.
As for the raid taking itself, which I've done a lot of...it's hard to completely agree with the old ways of doing so. With the increased shot damage and no insta-map this makes us burn armors much quicker than before and makes emptying your duals a lot harder as well. Last night I was raided by a good amount of people for a half hour straight and I wasn't given a chance to fill. The one break I got I emptied my remaining duals just to have everyone jump back on me after my first take when I didn't get to fill my armors. I was pretty pissed tbh because I'm sure they seen I never got a chance to but oh well. It seems like there just isn't much room for mercy, and like its our duty to die when we are raided instead of surviving like a boss.
After seeing this game play out so far I'm trying to play by our old standards but it seems almost impossible to live when the raiders know what they are doing. Just keep playing I guess.

I take raids, run out of armors, don't want to tele early so i play with no fuel and no shields for the last few screens until I mess up and/or get raped. The adrenaline really kicks in once the shields run out.

It's more fun when people get kills, it's just the way of the game. Half across the map teleports are not recommended. I guess the counter arguement would be that if you teleport that way, you will never get killed. It's not even taking a raid.
Just to encourage those that teleport far when the heat turns up. It is good practice and skill to develop, being able to strategically fight multiple players for extended periods of time. It comes very handy in tournaments :). You will certainly be ganged on in burst moments. When the map in tourny gets dry, your tactic back fires. Which i presume many then resort to quitting low.

What you did was fine. Since i keep beating you to your fuel and mining ;).
I was just refering to half way across the map teleports.

This but the point I'm getting at is people dart and run to go fill and it's usually after they are stuck and have to burn shields. A simple brb and respectable players will back off and let you fill simple techniques that let people know so there isn't need for topics like this until people listen I'll probable continue to make these tl;dr topics.

So after reading all of this I have come to these thoughts about what is going on.
Forum community's take on raiding
-Raidee: fight back don't teleport far, use your equipment (duals, duals, duals) survive as long as you can and in every instance end up dying because you are being raided and it's only proper to give them what they want since they started the raid on you - most likely without your permission. In other words your role as a raidee is to die to the raid and make it seem challenging so they don't end up empty handed and feel like they accomplished something with the raid; do this and you will be respected.
-Raider: Do everything in your power to kill the target. Use any tactics, as many allies as you have available pick a target because that targets death will hopefully give you or another raider a promotion. If you raid you deserve to get a kill because we, dammit, you spent time to go after someone and it wouldn't be fair to waste time chasing someone who don't die.
I'm really not trying to sound condescending... those are just my observations by the tone of the arguments from the community and me trying to put them together in a paragraphed list.
The raidee is at the disadvantage in all areas and anything they do to survive that is outside of the communities ideals is frowned upon. No offense but it is very American in the "I want it now and deserve it because I put work into it" mentality. It's an immediacy thing that deserves satisfaction because you did something and must be rewarded. Now granted those who survive by your rules, which that alone sounds impossible due to the fact that it's at least 4 people with full equipment versus one with full equipment and in any scenario with players of arguably similar skill the odds are infinitely against the minority due to simple numbers. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, to me, from reading this thread, it sounds as if the the raidee uses a tactic that makes it harder on the raid to achieve victory then it immediately becomes an issue of lack of skill, or it's unfair for the raid since they didn't get the kill. It sounds very childish to me. Why does it? It sounds childish because in any other circumstance outside of this game (yes even in other games) it's very common for a group of people to work towards a goal and not achieve it. Take for example a raid in an MMORPG. I'll use World of Warcaft for this example. 25 people attempt to kill a boss. They fail. Over and over again. You either keep trying, take a break and get different equipment, revise your strategy, or move on.
I know it's not a perfect example because the boss will always do the same thing every time you face it, but that's not the point. Success isn't always about obtaining the objective. It's always the goal and it doesn't always happen when you want it to. I feel that the same should work for tankpit/BF, but it doesn't. Why? Because the community says so. They want that instant gratification.
I can't say I'm good at taking a raid now. I have only taken 3 or 4 and have died every time; three of them with over 60% of my armors left and that's not anyone's fault but my own. I could argue that I usually only play at work, where I'm not supposed to - but my work is done or I don't have anything else to do - and because of that when people walk by I need to attempt to "look busy." In that respect I tend to avoid playing, especially when a raid could happen on me since it would be no fun when I have to , mid-raid, stop actively playing, but all that is pointless. I am not saying I deserve any recognition with any of this. I'm just a long-winded critically thinking individual trying to understand this community in a logical sense. I'm want to understand the majorities mentality here and as it stands now that mentality, as I have laid out above, seems ludicrous to me. I could be missing the point and therefore please, PLEASE, correct me so I don't look like an ass.

i think the main issue people are concerned with is the notion that some players have that being deactivated is the end of the world and they are terrified of it, so they resort to running away at all costs instead of attempting to fight back, whether successful or unsuccessful.
I believe there is a saying that..
"A coward dies many deaths, but if you stay and fight you only die once, unless of course you try and take another raid in which you could die a few times." ~ Confucious (or somebody)

crush I think you misunderstood a little of what I meant. I tele'd far away twice yesterday because the reds that were in an hour or so before you were mining every fuel they saw at the top of the map. They would attack me, radar...mine all the fuel, go mine another screen of fuel and then jump back on me. I think this behaviour should be frowned upon and teleing far away should be acceptable when people rig the map in their favor. This wasn't the first I've seen it, needs to stop.
But for now I say we should just keep trying our old ways. Seems to be the funnest way to play.

Raidee this is correct but you don't have to give them the kill a simple brb when your out of duels and if u took it well enough you will be allowed to fill. Simply dieing for no reason would be stupid. But running would be even worse as everybody would be pissed at you.

Im not going to jump in a screen that everythings mined up. Dont blame u on the jumps knock. We know whats acceptable and what isnt. If they do stuff like that or purposely long moving me to lag death me im out of there. Ill fight to the death but you're not gonna cheat my death.

So let me get this straight...
In order for the raidee not to die... they have to use a community accepted means to communicate that they are low on equipment and if the raiders deem you so worthy you get reprieve enough re-equip yourself for another raid moments later.
In other words, to be accepted by the community as a a respectable player we have to follow your [the community's] subjective collective rules when being raided, not do anything outside of these confines of subjectivity, if you survive under the confines long enough to run out of equipment you have "real skill" - in accordance with the community's ideological unwritten bylaws - then you earn the right to appeal to the raiders by using a community accepted means of communication "Be Right Back" and by no other means so that it is 100% clear of the raidee's intentions, so that the raiders can collectively and subjectively weigh the merits of the current raid and allow the raidee to fill. If not, "Be Right Back" is ingored and raidee dies?

Basically yes, your wording is to intelligent for me to follow easily so here's my morons version.
Shoot back as much as you can, try to tele short distances, try to empty all duels before you die. Pick up the odd equipment when possible but don't pick up 2-3 in a row it makes it look like your running. When you run out of shields don't just run, stay calm and continue to take the raid if you have duels left. If you do not have duel's left a simple 'be right back' message lets the raiders know you need to fill your 'duels'(meaning you have survived the raid) they should let you fill.
To make it easier (Hunter I know you can do this) somebody record crusher, knock, 003, anybody that follows these simple 'rules' you will realise how simple this actually is and how easy it would be to adapt to it. I don't understand why you would want to play any other way that would upset the community.
Its like your being awkward and trying to rebel against some simple 'guide lines' I will call them.
Say you playing football (soccer for you foreigners) just with friends, there are no REAL rules, but you know to play with your feet, but you decide when it gets a little touch you will pick the ball up with your hands and run a little with it until it opens up and is easier again. This is basically an example of what you are doing. You should be playing one way but decide to take the 'easy route' which is frowned upon and disliked by the community.
Shoot back as much as you can, try to tele short distances, try to empty all duels before you die. ... you dont stop taking the raid when you run out of duels or armors. you only can stop if you run out of ers or if only 2-3 of them start to follow you for a few screens and the rest of them break off to fill.

The rules were established to make the game more fun. If everybody marathoned at the first sign of attack, the game would be really annoying. The people that raid the raidee are also expected to take raids when the numbers are against them. To be honest, the best raid takers don't die in raids, they own them. I don't even consider myself extremely good and I've survied several raids. If you are really low/out of shields most would understand if the raidee starts focusing a little more on finding fuel as long as they don't marathon or run to water. If the raidee is still alive after using all his duel and/or ERs than the raiders should let him fill.
After saying that, there are of course some gray areas. Mobs and multicolored raids can be annoying. Raiders that attack the same player right after getting a kill are also annoying. Not letting someone fill who is out of duels/er's is annoying. People can have faults on both sides.
I honestly think the rules make for a better game as long as the raiders also take raids in return. More exciting gameplay, more chances to showcase skill, and more chances for players to rank.
One more thing to keep in mind is your skill level. Personally, I think it would be better for a player to run more a little more (not marathon) to survive longer rather than die in the first 3-4 screens because he was fighting back too much. If you die that quickly, you will still be considered a bad player whether or not that earns you respect. Lets not take this too seriously and just have fun playing.
Okay last thing. I just read your latest post sabre. There will always be jerks and people that get mad. If you have noticed several experienced players have also complained as raidees. Just fight back while you try to survive. Don't marathon or run to water and you'll be fine. If people are ignoring your legitimate "brb" than piss them off just like they are pissing you off. Who cares if they complain later. I guess the main point about taking a raid is to not run from a fight but to also stay alive. In a 10v1 you'd be lucky to get one shot off every couple screens. Circumstances change depending on the raid and people know that. If you hit a dry spot you shouldn't be criticized for using a couple tele's to get back to the fuel. Raiders can get a little bloodthirsty and criticize your every move so not every criticism is necessary. Tbh I'm not even taking sides in this what's his name vs Val thing. I think most of us would know a good raid taker when we see one. I'm starting to ramble now. Actually I've been rambling for a while. If you don't think the current rules make for the best gameplay than maybe you have some suggestions? If they are widely accepted then they can be implemented. Ok, I'm finally done.

There has been so much talk about taking raids over the years. Bottom line is, this is a simple 2D game. For the experienced players, there are only two aspects of the game that's still challenging. Winning tournaments fairly and taking raids. It's obvious that most of the forum's active topics are tournaments and raids related issues (owning, getting ownt, low quitting, running and etc). It's been 10 years fellas and we are still complaining about the same things.
If you are less experienced, then practice taking raids by avoiding across the map teleports. If you are experienced and own raids already, then try to push yourself to the limit. Besides that, what's there left to play for tankpit? Granted, no one need to put up with raids, since you are already at a disadvantage, but then no one dies. I firmly believe people have more fun playing this game when death and promotions are constantly cycled. Part of the reason people keep running and quitting low is that they find it difficult to rank up.
Anyways, I like to take this opportunity to promote Battle Royale. It will be a raiding and taking raid fest. Sign up people. If there are enough players, it will be EPIC!

This came into play in utanks, I agree it should be like that here but its much harder to use all your radars why keeping shields ratio.... lol I am all for this but it will not stick here as there are always people who will want to fill after so long.
A quick little add on, do not be right back right away after you've shot your last duel, shoot a few singles so the raiders know you are actually out before brb.

Big Blue, started to take a 3v1, we got him low, wasted a few shields then he quit low. Then he came in saying 'HUNTERiOWEu1' then came in saying 'WhenHOMOleaved' then 'JayisHOMO' LOL, then we left and hunter was supposed to tell us when he was coming in but he never, so when I entered I see hunter get the kill. I don't blame hunter he was 2hours from shiner and wanted gen. He said he doesn't talk to BigBlue and doesn't know why he owes him one lol Was funny though, I am sure I read somewhere that bigblue would never quit low. Also he raged after his fk and killed bigblue down and then kool aid down ha...

Saberwolf, just play however you want to play. Just use the golden rule when you decide what game habits you wish to pick up. That is the only "rule" I think the community has/should set.
