I disagree with this line of thinking. I'd like to see Tankpit attract as many players as possible. The game just wouldn't be as fun with a significantly smaller player-base, even if that smaller player-base totally eschewed "lame" tactics or maneuvers. I think that it's up to the developers of Tankpit to implement measures that will help prevent people from doing things like quitting low, always picking the mob color in tournaments, or dying down in tournaments after their first death. The fact of the matter is that, short of completely restricting the game to a small handful of people who've already played for years and who abide by the same moral code as you do, we will ALWAYS see some players performing lame tactics. It's the same in any game. There are players who are new and don't know any better; there are players who are experienced but don't really agree with following any hard-line ethical codes; and then there are players whose entire purpose of playing is to upset, irritate, and provoke everybody else. Short of locking the game down and preventing new players from joining (which would, I believe, eventually lead to the game's death), Tankpit will never escape this reality of online gaming. Rather, as I mentioned, the developers should be encouraged to limit these irritating behaviors by updating the game with some common-sense implementations. We have already suggested a few to them (like randomized teams in tournaments)—now it's up to them to follow through on what their community wants.

Another TankPit vs uTanks thread? zzzzz
Here are my thoughts on it typed up nice and succinctly.
TankPit:
- Took 2 months to develop and the game is running stable
- Almost identical to classic BF other than slightly increased speed and a mapping hotkey
- Done by old ex-players who wished to remain faithful to classic BF
- Increased shot damage and reduced fuel levels makes battles with less players more challenging and fun
- Damage reduction in raids should make large battles possible as well
- Removed promotion points to discourage "pph" or fake fighting
- All the little old "quirks" of BF which enabled elite players to streamline things were preserved. (ie. when you grab an EQ you can easily predict where your tank will stop driving)
- Fuel and EQ respawns randomly, which means parts of the map will be wet and parts dry
- Graphics are tight but too small. If you use the game stretch feature they will be blurred
- Many of the cheats from BF were completely fixed. No SH or other cheats have been attempted (yet)
- Anyone with a modern browser on any operating system can play. Java is the only requirement.
- No ads, have not asked for donations.
- Developers do not have active participation in the community
- General Lucy seems very friendly in email
- Has more players than uTanks
- Many old players who didn't like uTanks came back for TankPit
uTanks:
- They took 4 years and is still in "beta" stage, with bugs and crashes.
- Veered from BF in design
- Done by latecomers to BF who played in the SH era, were never well acquainted with the original game, and intended to change it rather than preserve it
- Developers lack a vision on where they are going with the game. The have frequently implemented things players asked for, then removed them a month later when players asked to remove them, etc.
- Reduced shot damage and increased fuel levels so battles require more players. Anything below 4v1 is essentially fake fighting
- Most ranking up is via free kills, because it's nearly impossible to get legitimate kills
- Show promotion points on tournament results and post the real totals of top 10 on forums, which encourages "pph" and fake fighting
- Added brigadier general rank which promotes free kills
- Added award tiers which are stupid. The star tiers encourage fake fighting and free kills
- The little quirks from BF were discarded. (ie. you never know when you grab an EQ where your tank will stop driving)
- Everything is simplified and sped up. (ie. you just click on EQ to grab it rather than click and hold; there is instant map when you press F)
- Anti free-kill system prevents 1v1 or 2v1 kills from counting in tournaments
- 95% of tournaments in the last year have crashed the game before during or after
- Graphics are cartoonish. (ie. explosion graphics are simply yellow mist)
- General lack of "polish" on the game
- Despite complex security system which invades players' privacy, cheats are still available for the game and will probably never be stopped
- Requires downloading .NET framework, XNA framework and the uTanks Client as well as downloading updates when they change things
- Developers are active in the community and seem to want players to praise them
- Mr. Andy is not friendly and shut the game off for a month without warning when he was upset that the players didn't show him appreciation
- Kevin is incompetent at developing uTanks and with computers in general. (ie. he claimed he could sell google subdomains for $5). He's a liar and manipulative.
- Have ads, have asked players to click on the ads for them, and have required donations (ie. $500 to get ice tiles)
- Nobody really plays uTanks anymore except for people who have 300 hours already and don't want to admit it was time wasted

This was actually my first impression of uTanks. I've only known about the game since early January... I think shortly before Tankpit was online. I thought that the idea for the game was a cool one, and I was looking forward to being an active member of the community. Then I saw the uTanks news posting from 28 Dec 2011.
Seriously? What sort of game developers launch that kind of childish attack against their own community? Not only does that post manage to sap the energy and enthusiasm for the game out of anybody who reads it (who wants to play a game where even the game's own staffers admit that they have no will to continue?), but Andy then goes on to LITERALLY BLAME THE COMMUNITY for the game's slow development progress! Here's a tip for the uTanks team: no one wants to hear or see the developers of a game whine, moan, groan, complain, and ultimately just feel pity and sorry for themselves, ESPECIALLY in such a prominent and public place like a news feed. We want you to tell us about all of the cool new ideas, features, tournaments, competitions, etc., that you're planning to bring us. We want you to get us pumped up to play your game.
What a completely laughable news post. It was totally disrespectful to the uTanks community, and it certainly did not engender any reciprocal respect towards the uTanks team from me. It was shortly after reading that post that I learned about Tankpit, and I was pretty glad about it too, because after reading that insult of a news item I really had no desire to play their game. Now I know from experience that it can sometimes be frustrating to be at the helm of a large community, especially when it doesn't seem like the members are the least bit grateful about all of the time and effort that you put into it, but that's just part of the job. Suck it up, and move on. It doesn't give you carte blanche to act like a total jerk to your own community.
Note for clarity's sake that I don't know what Andy's official role is over at uTanks—I just used the term "developer" as a catch-all for staffer.

How do you know all of this SW? Got connections with the developers of Tankpit?
It seems so, you take every chance you get to promote TP and shoot down utanks. Are you one of the ex-player that got dibs in tankpit?
I only play tankpit. I tried utanks, never caught on.

QFT. I don't see any rebuttals to my points in this thread, only ad hominem attacks on my personal character.

utanks would be way better if not for, driving speed being 20 seconds long from screen to screen. and the amount of bugs and crashes are ridiculous.
tankpits gameplay is so slow that driving doesnt really seem that slow. and is pretty bug free and crashes rarely.
utanks is easily the better game if they find a way to solve bugs and crashes somehow, hopefully soon.
dont like either game atm but prefer tankpit a bit more because driving isnt so annoying and the game is stable. i like stable games. when utanks becomes stable itll regain popularity

I don't shoot utanks down, I do think its the more advanced better game but that is not what I want, my opinion is that tankpit is better for me, I like it more.
There is no 'better' game really, its just I 'prefer' tankpit over utanks making tankpit my better game.
Same as somebody else picking utanks as their better game there is no right or wrongs but SW's list state all the facts even if it is one sided. Somebody could go and add the utanks side of the argument, to be honest there should be no argument its every1's only personal choice and opinion.
My opinion is right, yours is wrong deal with it :)

Interesting how people like SW like to rewrite truth. If anyone has any problem with me or wants to discuss with me anything that happened with uTanks past, present, or future, feel free to hit me up. I don't hide the truth or spin things like Sunny the Wolf. I laughed when he called anyone but himself manipulative. Anyways, enjoy either game. TankPit is extremely nostalgic, but I still see uTanks as the future. Just a personal opinion based on personal insight (some insider stuff going on here). Anyways, feel free to hit me up if you want to see some clarity. I love to talk about the history of this community, BFU, and uTanks, and more importantly how they are all connected (ie the true history). Sean will tell you the second half, some others can tell you the first half, but I'd be happy to give you the whole picture. See you on whatever field entertains you the most.

Cdub you're mixing me up I'm not casey, he just made my sig. I'm MC, remember? And from what I'm seeing I like tankpit a lot better. Partially because of the nostalgia factor but I feel like its really hard to kill anyone in utanks, shot damage is too reduced and there is way too much fuel everywhere. Plus the original awards are way hotter lol.

I did. I skimmed the thread, but your post was the one I was mainly responding to. Take me for what you will. I don't really care about that too much anymore. People are soon to forget truth, and I have accepted that. Will I quit because of that? Of course not. I was the only admin on this forum for years and years and years. I took part in the creation of uTanks for many reasons, but mainly to bring our community back to life. I had some amazing times here that I will never forget. Times change, sure, but the tragedy is not in the change. The tragedy is in easy embrace of sudden emotion and the intentional rewriting of history.
You asked what I do for uTanks. A lot of people have said I just write stuff like the rules, the web content, or whatever. I do a lot for uTanks. It isn't as simple as clarifying a single role for each person. All of us do a lot for uTanks. As maturity dawns, I have decided to live through action, not through words. I do appreciate the opinion though. It definitely keeps me informed of the mistakes I have made and how I can do better in the future.

I'm glad you finally matured to this point. I think we all prefer to see a stable working game with silent developers than a buggy one whose devs are constantly making podcasts and writing essays about themselves rather than fixing their shit.
