Surprise appearance.

The best game will win but the emergence of a new game is going to motivate Andy, Kevin and TP developers to pull their socks up and try harder to retain market share.
Show me emergence, I show you sox. =)
SW wrote:Easy to say you're making a video game, a lot harder to actually do it and finish it. 99% this project never comes to fruition and it's pointless to talk about.
P.S. - Writing in C++ is almost as bad as uTanks' choice of C#/XNA in terms of ease of getting players to try it.
Depends on your perspective. What happened to Sun Microsystems again?
delivery wrote:Agreed, this new game is where uTanks was 3-4 years ago according to the page. Will be interesting to see how the devs of both games react to this and whether they think this is a realistic threat to them or not.
I highly doubt this project was a random find. Also, uTanks and Tankpit are not the same game. They have similar origins, but different aims. Tankpit is much more traditional than the ever evolving (sometimes too much evolving) uTanks. I think it is pretty clear that this was the intention. Not trashing on what they have done with Tankpit. I havent only seen screenshots, maybe entered the game once as a guest, but I like how they immediately started working on getting more visuals on the screen and less text. It's a good UX oriented vision, which is really what SW was always good at. uTanks is not this way. While UX is important, oftentimes functionality and some of the more boring (but challenging) things take the focus. We also coded uTanks literally from scratch, so naturally stabilization and release candidate recycling was very prominent. Either way, the best way I can compare the way I see uTanks and Tankpit (and any other similar game) is like the thousands of first person shooter iterations. We've seen it all, really. Different controls, different features, different environments, different storylines. Same basic concept. Think about it-- we've still never seen anything like Battlefield, Tankpit, or uTanks. Third person view, less than full screen client. Basic and easy to pick up, but also with less repetition than Galaga and more room for competition and player growth within the game. I'd dare to suggest that we are creating a new sub genre, restriking the balance lost with Battlefield.
It isn't as simple as this versus mentality. Then again, maybe this is my idealistic young person ego begging for social back patting. *shrugs*
